Title: Magnetized
Rating: G
Setting/Spoilers: Based on a pic from the latter half of season 4, but nothing even as spoilery as what's in the official trailer. That S4 spoiler.
Author's Note: Something smooshy wormed its way out of my system and onto paper. XD
The Doctor took one step out of the TARDIS, onto a deserted residential street, and there she was. It was only the sound of Donna coming up short behind him that told him he had frozen just outside the door. Still, he stood and drank her in, just as she seemed to be doing. Eyes flitted up and down, lingering on differences as well as the heartbreakingly familiar. His face, worn slightly haggard, a new tie, brown pinstripes, ratty Converse, and eyes that were worlds deep. Her longer hair, older features, brown eyes, perfect hugging height, and full lips. She also held a rather impressive-looking gun, which disturbed the Doctor, but they frankly could argue about it some other time. Not now. Finally, after moments of stillness, Rose spoke.
"Oh, hold this!" She swung the gun's strap over her head and shoved the ghastly thing into Mickey's arms. The Doctor barely had time to wonder how long the man had been there before his body propelled itself towards the blonde that had launched herself at him. As magnets, they met with force and clung as closely as they could. Her face was burrowed into his neck and shoulder while he nuzzled her hair, taking in the scent and feel of her. One of the hollows in his hearts began to fill just from the presence of her, and it made his chest ache. A mutual squeeze, and he felt a measure of peace. Then, he felt her head shift.
"I missed you," said Rose before kissing him soundly on the cheek. He grinned stupidly and pulled away just enough to reposition her. That done, he hauled her off the ground and began to swing her back and forth.
"I missed you!" he exclaimed. Rose laughed in spite herself, and even if it was this kind of tomfoolery during crises that had gotten them into trouble many times before, she couldn't feel guilty for this. Her much-deserved reunion.
When he sat her down again, they shared a watery look.
"My Doctor," she found herself uttering. His features stilled, and Rose worried that her disobedient mouth had gone a step too far. Stupid of her to presume- but then his mouth was on hers, and his hands squeezed her hips, and she ran hers through his un-tamable locks. After a firm snog, each reaffirming his or her affection to the other, they broke apart. The Doctor spotted Donna off to the side – misty-eyed, the great softy; she really was all bark for someone so abusive – and it reminded him of the circumstances of their reunion.
So, he asked his love, "To be continued later?" There was joy and humor in his expression, but Rose read the question for what it was. Would she stick around after the action? Was she leaving again? Rose smiled knowingly and watched the hope bloom in his eyes.
"To be continued later," she agreed pulling him into another kiss, short but savored. Then she turned to a gently smiling Mickey, took her weapon back, and prepared to face the universe.
