Before the Dawn
I was amazed with the first episode of season 4; it was a great opening episode. Anyway since it was left at such a massive cliff hanger I had to write my opinion of what happened next.
Disclaimer- I don't own Merlin and if I did I wouldn't have to write a fanfic.
Enjoy! ^_^

He knew as he and the other knights ran over to Merlin what had happened. They knew what they would see. Their fears were confirmed as he turned the limp Merlin over. Open but unblinking eyes stared at them. His body frozen over with ice. It wasn't right. Merlin never got hurt, if he did it was only little and he got straight back up. Merlin had faced countless of dangerous creatures he couldn't die now. A few minutes ago he was joking around with him and now... No he refused to believe it. But Gaius' word kept repeating in his mind:
No mortal has ever survived their touch.
"No" He choked back tears that were threatening to come. He vaguely heard a few of the knights' curse but didn't bother to see who they were. "Please Merlin. Please don't." He whispered gently shaking Merlin's body even though he knew it wouldn't work. A hand touched his shoulder and Lancelot's face came into view. "I'm sorry Arthur, we should have been quicker." He shook his head "No. It wasn't any of your faults. It was me, I should have stopped him." His gaze wondered over to Merlin's limp and frozen body and tried shaking him again "please." The tears threatened to come again "please Merlin!" He shouted and finally the tears came.
Lancelot's face came into his vision and gently took Merlin from his hands and led him on the floor. "There's nothing you can do." He nodded and closed Merlin's eyes. Taking a deep breath he stood up and faced the knights, all of which looked as devastated as he did. "This has gone on long enough... too many innocent lives have been lost." Everyone nodded in agreement. "We need to stop this now." More nods. He glanced at Merlin again "For Merlin and all the other innocent." He shouted and the knights copped. He was about to talk when he heard a slight groan from behind him. His breath caught in his throat. He spun round and rushed over to the body behind him. "Merlin!" he called and to his amazement and relief tired blue eyes wondered over to him before closing again. The idiot had done it again. He'd survived when the odds were against him. But, he reminded himself, it wasn't over yet; Merlin may be alive but he was weak and still might not make it. "He's unbelievable." Gwain voiced causing everyone else to laugh.
He had said the darkest hour was just before the dawn and he himself hadn't really believed that; until now. Just as he had given up Merlin had done the impossible. Yes it seemed hopeless now but he knew it would get better.
The darkest hour is just before the dawn and things were starting to get brighter now.
