It was around midnight, a time when most of the citizens of Konoha were sound asleep, and Uchiha Sasuke was laying wide awake. The past few nights had been the same routine: laying awake while troubling questions floated through his mind. He sighed and turned onto his side, now facing his peacefully sleeping, now very pregnant, wife.
He brushed some of her pink hair out of her face as a new wave of questions plagued his mind. Will the baby be born alright? Would Sakura make it through the birth alive? Would the baby turn out to be another Itachi? And the question that came up the most in his troubled mind…
Would he be a good father?
That question worried him greatly. He had loved his late father…but the man had almost been a stranger to Sasuke. His father never gave his youngest son a second glace, until the end of his life when he began to doubt his eldest. Would he be the same kind of father as his own? Respected…but feared by his child? He sighed again.
Suddenly, Sakura's eyes began to flutter open. A moment passed before she awoke fully and noticed the distress in her husband.
"Sasuke-kun…," she began. "What are you doing up this late? You should be resting."
"I…I was just thinking."
"Thinking of what, Sasuke-kun? The baby?" she smiled softly before leaning in to give him a quick kiss. "The baby will be fine. He is strong, like his father."
Though his wife did make him feel a bit better about the whole situation he still was nervous. For now though he would trust his wife and hope that everything would go as planned.
He smiled back at his wife. He reached over, wrapped a strong arm around her and pulled her close to him. He felt her snuggle into his chest and after a few minutes her breaths evened out and she fell back into a deep sleep. Sasuke began to stroke her hair and soon followed Sakura into a deep sleep. Though the future was uncertain in the here and now they were able to find comfort within each other's arms.
