Memories
Disclaimer: I do not own Glee or any of the characters
A/N: In Glee they claim that Blaine is a year younger than Kurt but that doesn't make sense at the same time. So this is my take on why he is a school year below Kurt. Also thank you to The Book Lady for helping me with this.
"Kurt, it's okay," Blaine Anderson cooed as he rubbed circles into his best friend's back.
"N-No it's not Blaine," Kurt insisted but didn't move his head from Blaine's neck.
"Yes it is, I understand, there's nothing wrong with having nightmares," he tried.
"I'm so sick of all of this though," Kurt shot back pulling up and away from Blaine and wiping at the tears that still swam down his cheeks.
"What do you mean?" Blaine asked wrapping his arms around his own knees knowing Kurt didn't want to be touched.
"I'm sick of living in fear of him Blaine, of having nightmares, having to leave my old school, being pushed out of the way, because of who I am," Kurt said, calming his sobs.
"Kurt it's okay to be afraid," Blaine reasoned moving closer to Kurt, and looking him in the eyes.
"No it isn't," he repeated tearing his eyes from Blaine's.
"No one is going to think less of you because your afraid," Blaine said, lifting a hand and moving Kurt's face so their eyes were locked again.
"But your're not," Kurt said looking down as soon as the last word left his mouth.
Blaine moved his hand away from Kurt's cheek, appalled that he really thought that, "But I am Kurt, I just don't show it,"
"Why are you afraid?" he asked looking up at Blaine through tear-clouded eyes.
"Well remember how I told you I switched schools because I was being made fun of?" he asked and when Kurt nodded, he swallowed and continued, "Well when I first came out, I was already being picked on for being...smaller than the other guys, so when," he paused and Kurt grabbed his hand, not even thinking about it. "Well there was a dance, a Sadie-Hawkins one to be exact," he laughed a bit ruefully at this. "So I asked this guy, a friend of mine, the only other one... out... in the school, to go with me and he agreed," he paused for a moment here.
"Blaine, you don't have to," Kurt said rubbing his thumb over the other boy's skin.
"Yes I do," he said patting Kurt's hand as he bit on his lip and continued, "Well, we were out in the parking lot, waiting for his dad to come get us after the dance was over, and we were the last to leave, at least... that's what we thought so when these guys, football players, cornered us, we got a bit freaked out and tried to run but they caught us and well," he said putting a hand over his eyes as he said te next part, "They beat the living crap out of us," at this Kurt took in a sharp breath, "The other guy moved out of the state and we were both in the hospital for a good month or so, so we fell behind on studies and we both had to repeat a grade," he said, moving away from Kurt, feeling ashamed.
Now you've done yourself in real good, he'll probably laugh at you and move on with his life.
"Blaine, Blaine look at me," Kurt said and smiled a little at him, "I'm not judging you, in fact I'm glad you told me, now we can work through both of our problems together," he said not knowing how happy that small last word made him.
"I'd like that," Blaine said smiling but his thoughts taunted him with something horribly different.
As friends, a friend, a mentor, the only things he'll ever see you as.
As he realized this he smiled, a tight-lipped, forced one, at Kurt and willed himself to get over the thin countertenor in front of him.
