Spike sat in a clearing in the forest crying. Rarity had found herself a stallion and he learned she was to be married. When he tried to talk to Twilight about it, she ignored him and told him to go away. She was too engrossed into her book to notice the tears, but Spike didn't care. If she were his friend, she would have put her book down and listened. Apparently he wasn't important enough for such things. He tried the others but they were too busy to listen to his trivial issues. He never felt so alone in young life. Maybe. Maybe nopony would miss him if he was gone. He wiped his tears away and drug his feet to a place he knew he could end it all.
The cliff was the steepest in Equestria. With a two mile drop, Spike knew it would kill him. He breathed a few times before he lifted one foot over the edge. He hesitated, but finally let his body fall. He thought of all his friends, what they would do, how they would act.
He found he didn't care, he simply waited for death's sweet embrace.
Something slammed into him and he found himself cradled in arms, scaly arms. The wind was still in his face, but not as harshly. When whoever was holding him landed, he was gently placed down and smacked hard across the face.
A voice he recognized boomed out, "What were you thinking?!"
When Spike finally opened his eyes, a tall, red dragon hovered over him with a look of fury, disappointment and, fear?
When Garble received no response he sighed and placed a claw to his forehead. "Why?"
Spike looked up with tears in his eyes, "Why what?"
Garble stomped a foot into the ground, "Why would you try to KILL YOURSELF!"
Spike curled into a ball in fear of Garble's judgmental eyes.
"Well!"
His voice caused him to curl up more. He mumbled something, but Garble couldn't understand. Spike tensed as he felt Garble's claws on his lower back, the other on his neck. He was placed in his lap and Spike felt safe enough to uncurl his body. Garble's eyes now only showed care. "Please tell me"
He sounded like he was pleading. Instead of answering, Spike said, "Why are you being so nice? I thought you hated me!"
Garble seemed surprised at this. "Why would you think that?"
Spike stood on one of Garble's leg. "Because you tried to kill me when I didn't smash th poor defenseless egg.
Garble sighed and shook his head. "No, I wasn't trying to kill you, I could never do that. But you challenged my authority, Spike. I couldn't look weak. You understand right? It's a dragon thing. But we are going off topic. Why did you try to kill ypurself?"
Spike looked down, ashamed he did such a thing. Garble used his claw to tilt his head up to look at him eye to eye. Spike began sobbing quietly, "I'm in love with a pony who doesn't love me back."
Garble seemed shocked and turned his head away. He dug a claw into his palm to vent his frustration. Spike saw what he was doing and placed a gentle claw atop his. "Garble, what's wrong?"
"Nothing, look maybe this pony just isn't right for you. You should broaden your preferences away from ponies. I mean, maybe there's a dragon who already kinda, I don't know, likes you like that. A certain teenage dragon."
Garble was actually blushing, Spike could tell even through the red scales.
He also knew what Garble was trying to do. He decided to mess with him alittle. Hopefully some joking would help him feel better.
"Oh yeah that white dragon with pink scales?"
Garble quickly became aggravated, "What? No! I meant me!"
He realized what he said and covered his mouth. Spike nestled into Garble's chest. So strong and yet so soft. "I know Garble."
He sighed happily against his new boyfriend.
"I know"
