Just something I threw together after playing some of Y5's Premium Adventure.
Haruka glanced around the table they were sitting at, having already finished her dinner a few minutes ago. The day had been fairly normal, and she had managed to convince Kiryu to buy her one of the most expensive dishes on the menu. Aside from that, they'd spent the day together and generally did some much-needed catching up. Speaking of which...
"Uncle Kaz?"
"Hm?"
"Why did you want to go out today?"
Kiryu put his cup of tea down and briefly thought about what would made a good answer. A multitude of empty bowls crudely decorated his side of the table, having ordered a ton of food after a couple of street brawls. "Well, I felt like I had to get outside at some point. I figured I should ask if you wanted to come along."
"Are you feeling better since…?"
He looked at his fist and seemed to study the light scratches on his knuckles, willfully oblivious to what Haruka actually meant. "...Can't complain. It's strange how people keep trying to attack me on the street."
"I, um...I meant your gunshot wound. It was pretty hectic after I found you on the street."
He looked a bit guilty about that, presumably because walking such a far distance while bleeding out and shirtless on a snowy night wasn't exactly the best idea. "You had a minor case of hypothermia, but the...the blood loss was the real problem. I couldn't see you for a few weeks."
"Yeah, I, uh...don't really remember how long I was out for."
Kiryu seemed to be looking pointedly at everything except his daughter, something Haruka picked up on simply from watching him for a few seconds. "I was really worried."
He frowned at that, but said nothing more. Instead, he motioned for the two of them to head for the register, fishing out his wallet to pay for the meal. His back was turned to her, so he failed to see her pout irritably at him. It was only after they had gotten back outside that he committed to facing her and saying, "Sorry. I figured I could get back to New Serena, but…"
"But you bit off more than you could chew?"
"...Yeah. I wanted to ask if there was any way I could make it up to you."
Haruka put a finger to her chin in thought as he looked for a taxi, figuring he may as well do something rather than wait for trouble to come to him or get bored. Either or. Finally, it came to her. "Uncle Kaz?"
"Huh?...Oh."
Haruka was holding her hand out to him, but his remained at his side as he regarded her with some confusion. "...Did you hurt your hand, or…?"
She sighed and danced impatiently on the spot, fixing him with a look that screamed how silly he was being. "No, you goof! I wanted you to hold my hand!"
"You mean like when you were a kid?"
"Mhm."
Kiryu looked from her hand to her eyes for a moment before letting out a soft chuckle and taking the proffered hand gently. She smiled brightly at him and swung their joined hands back and forth enthusiastically, eagerly following him as they started walking. "Happy now?"
"If we go to Club SEGA, then maybe I'll be happier."
"Heh. Okay, then. Let's go."
"We can use the PrintCircle, right?"
"...Sure."
The lights of Kamurocho shone brightly as the retired yakuza and idol leisurely walked down the street, a sense of peace falling on the two as the city and its inhabitants all went on about their business. They both settled into a fairly relaxed pace, with Haruka simply content to be able to walk with her father again.
I might continue, based on reception. Just as a little side project.
Till next time.
