This idea came to me after watching the teaser for the first episode of the new season. I do hope we get to see Calleigh talking to Eric because I do believe there is so much that needs to be said between them, even if she is the only one talking. I am sure it won't go anything like this, but hey here are my two cents.

If you haven't seen it yet, then what the hell are you waiting for. (just kidding)

Contains spoilers for season 8, episode 1. The rest is my imagination hard at work

She had seen Horatio talking to Eric after the surgery. She had seen Horatio break at the mere mention of his beloved Marisol, his brother Ray and his lost son Speed. She didn't remember him breaking down the first time Eric was shot, but this time was it was so much harder for him to handle. She wiped the stray tear away from her eyes as she watched him get up and whisper something to Eric. She could only hope that he was telling him to fight, just like they always did. They had come a long way in the 12 years since the team was formed. They had lost colleagues and friends but he was always the constant, he was the one who always held the team together. She couldn't face a life without him in it. After many years of holding back, she finally opened herself and her heart to him. Now she faced the possibility of never getting that back.

She was lost in her own thoughts and memories when Horatio stepped out of the room. She jumped when he placed his hand on her shoulder. He ushered her into the room, telling her that Eric needed her more than she could ever know. She didn't want to go in there; she didn't want to face the possibility of seeing him in such a horrible state. She wanted to wake up from this nightmare that started only 48 hours before.

As she entered the sterile hospital room the overwhelming feeling of déjà vu hit her. It had been two years since she had seen him in the same place, but this time it was different. The first time he had been in the hospital it was due to a bullet from someone else's gun. This time it was different; this time it was because of her. It was her bullet that caused him to crash, her bullet that caused him to hit his head, her bullet that dislodged the fragment in his head. She was the one to blame, which is why when faced with the decision to operate it was that much more bittersweet. How he could possibly leave her to handle such an important decision was beyond her, especially when she was the one who caused it in the first place.

The sound of the machines breathing for him and keeping him alive suddenly brought the flow of tears that had been threatening to spill for over an hour. Her knees felt weak as she made her way to his bedside. She recalled the last time she was in the hospital; the words that he promised her still rang in her mind. He had assured her that he would never leave her. As the sound of the machine rang in her ear she sat in the chair that was placed next to his bed. She bit her lip as she prepared her explanation to him.

"I don't know if you can hear me right now, but…but I just wanted you to know that I am so sorry." She let out a sob as the words tumbled from her lips.

"I swear that I didn't know it was you. I am so sorry that I didn't trust you. I…I was just so afraid that…" she couldn't continue. As she tried to regain her control, she gently stroked his badly bruised hand.

"You promised me that you would never leave me. You can't leave me in this world alone. I love you."

She stood up and placed a tender kiss on his forehead. With his hand still in hers, she whispered once more into his ear.

"I need you Eric."

She lifted his hand and placed it on her stomach, "We need you."

As she walked out of his room, the weight of her confession came crashing down on her. They couldn't face this world without him, her child needed a father.
