Link inhaled in the thick, humid air of the Ordon Woods as he sat in the grass by the gate, formally the portal to where he found her.

He looked up to the cloudy, orange sky. The warmth of summer was coming to a close, dawning a frozen winter. But it was still warm out. The twilight lit the sky as he sat, enjoying the last of the weather. His feet ached deeply. The physical pain shot repeatedly up the rest of his body, connecting with the hurt in his soul.

For hours, he had ran about the woods, crying for her, searching hopelessly for the connection between darkness and light. He had hoped that all that had taken place... the broken mirror, the broken connection, and the broken love was but a nightmare that he could freely awake from.

He called her name one last time before falling to the ground. The sounds of the birds overhead and the waterfall mocked him as he felt all but tranquility. He buried his face in his hands. His small, aching body was a vessel for the painful memories that ricochetted through him.

Her small, frail hand against his cheek.

Her body in his arms.

The feeling of worthiness.

Link, the strong warrior who redeemed Hyrule. The rescuer of Princess Zelda. The slayer of Ganondorf. No one to hold. Every part of his body that she had touched now burned furiously at the nerve as it was being amputated. What he would give to stare once more into her firey eyes and sarcastic smile. Her appealing black garmet that covered her conveniently, but left most of her creamy pale skin exposed. Her hair, soft to the touch yet looked as the brightest flame to ever ignite Link's heart.

When he snapped into reality, he found a tear that fell from his eye and onto his nose. The first tear he had shed since age seven.

But losing her was far worse than losing an ice cream cone. The unspoken phrase of his heart screamed in the night, burned throught his body.

I LOVE YOU MIDNA.
