Disclaimer: I do not own Neon Genesis Evangelion or Death Note.

Author's Note: This just a little something I came up with after noticing the similarities between Asuka from NGE and Mello from DN, and that is where the title comes from. This takes place in a dream kind of state since both characters are from two different realities. The best way I can explain it would be like Instrumentality of Eva so it may be kind of hard to understand at first.

Inferiority Complex

Appearance

Their appearance is similar. Both have blue eyes. His are the color of the sea while hers are the color of the sky. Their hair is a type of blonde. Hers is strawberry. His is golden. Both are beautiful. Both have the left side of their face marred. One burned. The other pierced. Still, they are beautiful.

Mentality

Their mindset is identical. They are both prideful. Both are prodigies. Both are adolescents who have forced themselves into adulthood to be the best. Neither regrets it. Regret is for children. Regret is for losers. Regret is for failures. There is no excuse for failure even if it means death.

Emotions

They are both emotional. Both are angry. Both experience extreme hate. They hate the color white. They believe they are adults, but their adolescent emotions keep them childish. Neither will admit it. They know not of love. They only know hate. Their parents never showed them love. Material love is all they know of love.

The Number Two

They are both associated with the number two. Both are second to someone else. She is the Second Child. He is in second place. Both hate the one in front of them. White bests the both of them. White always wins. White is first. White is always number one. Red is more human. Black is more normal, but white is number one. White is ugly. White is cold. White is emotionless, but white is still number one. They hate white. They will surpass white even if they die doing so.

Comfort

He holds her. She lets him and rests her head on his chest. They know the other is the only one who truly understands them. This is only a dream. They both know it because comfort does not exist outside of dreams. For that reason, they let down their barriers. They show weakness to the other. They know the other does not exist in their own reality. Only in this dream do both exist. Nothingness surrounds them. They can only see the other. They know they are one in the same.

When she wakes, the taste of chocolate will be on her tongue. When he wakes, the scent of blood and shampoo will be all that he smells. And unconsciously they'll say, "We are one in the same," even though the other will not be there to greet them when they wake up.
