Every Second
The old man and woman faced each other. It was night, in a small park. One of the only ones left. It was dark, barley a moon out. Just the way they liked it.
"Hey"
"Hey"
"So……"
"It hasn't been that long Bruce."
"Only 35 years."
"Doesn't seem like it. Hows your boy?"
"Doing, well."
"That's a fair compliment coming from you. I was surprised when I first heard about him. Figured it was you behind him though."
"He earned it."
"I'm sure he did. Hows Diana?"
"She's in Themescara. We, didn't work out."
"I'm not going to say I'm not happy about it."
"Didn't expect you to."
"You really know me too well."
"I could say the same."
"How have you really been Bruce?"
"Fine."
"Truthfully?"
"Some days are better than others. You?"
"Honestly? Just trying to get through every week, every day..."
"Sometimes it feels like that."
"Have you found someone yet?"
"No. Have you?"
"I lost my love a while ago."
"Who was it?"
"Don't be dense Bruce."
"Oh."
"Do you miss it?"
'What?"
"The old days."
"Sometimes. Something's."
"Like what?"
"Being able to fight. Being able to help-"
"From what I hear you help enough."
"A little. I miss…"
"Me? Do you miss us Bruce?"
"There was never an us."
"Really?"
"Not exactly."
"You're avoiding the question. Scared of the answer?"
"When I'm watching the boy out there, fighting, I miss being out there. And when I'm missing being out there, I'm missing you. Just being the way you make me feel, even when you were being bad. Just being…. Us. Whatever we were."
"That's the sweetest thing you've ever said to me Bruce."
"Do you?"
"What?"
"Miss me?"
"Every second."
