"It's ready!"

"she's ready!" Dr. Gaines scurried across the room excitedly to her computer console.

Silence filled the air, along with the pungent smell of sweat and oil. The offbeat quirky clanging of the console keys being repeatedly pressed echoed throughout the room.

"Start uploading her operating system" Dr. Gaines ordered to her assistant. "We're almost there"

"It's too much data" A voice retorted. "We're overloading the systems. We're not gonna make it!" A bead of sweat formed on the forehead of the dirty blonde male.

Dr. Gaines was now frantically typing away at the console, her once eager excitement replaced with fear and hope.

"The artificial synapses have to kick in!" The holographic display flashed atop the console. Bright green numbers began counting up in rapid succession.

Uploading System-70%, 80%, 90%

The screen read before faltering.

"Come on!" Dr. Gaines thought. "Just a little longer"

100%- Complete.

The fluorescent lights flickered before total darkness fell upon the whole room.

"No" Dr. Gaines cried out in despair, her hand clutched tightly into a fist.

For a few beats, darkness filled the vicinity of the once great laboratory.

A slight hum radiated throughout the room, and the backup generator finally came on.

The room took on an almost cherry pink hue as the backup lights shone. The console shone with a bluish tint, adding to the array of color that animated the room.

The humming ceased and the fluorescent lights replaced the back up light panels.

Dr. Gaines let out a pent up sigh. She raked her fingers through her hair , returning strawberry- blonde strands of hair back to their original fixated positions.

"Hello?"

Dr. Gaines slowly turned her back away from to the console. Her face took on an expression that one would have never thought possible. It was a mixture of awe and shock, held together with a string of hope that what stood before her was real. Or who stood before her, that is.

"Frankie?"
