If I die young,

Bury me in satin,

Lay me down on a,

Bed of roses.

There she lay, so peaceful it pains my heart. She reminds me of my sister, so young and always putting others first. As she lay there, I place flowers around her, as though that were her bed.

Sink me in the river,

At dawn,

Send me away,

With the words of a love song.

After laying her in a bed of flowers, I gather a bunch and slide them between her hands that now lay softly on her chest. It's still around dawn and the sun is shining brightly. Slowly, I rise, throwing my arrows on my back with my bow in my right hand. I turn and walk away, before stopping and turning to face her one last time. I place three fingers to my lips, and then hold them towards her as a sign of respect, the way of saying farewell in my District. I send her away with the tune she used to whistle.

The sharp knife,

Of a short life,

Well,

I've had,

Just enough time.

I remember clearly now, the spear the killed her. So sharp and it took such a short life. I know there are not many left, her time is up, but I will fight to avenge her. I walk away and remember her. The name sticking clearly in my head; Rue.

A/N: I hope you liked it, please review, I'd love to hear what you thought. I know I didn't use the whole song but I chose the lyrics that stood out for this moment. I love the relationship between Katniss and Rue and wanted to do a short songfic to show it. I thought this song fitted perfectly. Thank you for reading it. Also 'The Hunger Games' characters and storyline belong to Suzanne Collins and the lyrics are 'If I Die Young' by The Band Perry, credit for the song goes to them. Finally, I will not be removing the lyrics as it would defeat the point of the story being a fanfic. Thank you. xx
