"It was you, wasn't it?" He says, hand on chest, trying to put the pieces back in place, trying to stop the blood from flowing.

Naruto watches the way it oozes between his fingers, and his eyes are crestfallen and scared and ever so lonely. He gives the smallest of nods, and then looks away, not wanting his comrade to catch sight of his tears.

Sasuke laughs – a small sound, and it takes Naruto by surprise. They watch each other, and Sasuke smiles. "Come here," he calls, and Naruto walks to him as if in a daze, rests his hand upon his shoulder. He drops to his knees in a small movement, buries his face in the creek of his friend's neck, and tries to breathe him in one last time.

Sasuke's hand is shaky, but he presses it against Naruto's body, tangles his fingers in his soft locks. "It's okay," he says, but his voice is less assured than before, and his smile shakes a little. The hand pressed against his chest is crushed in between their bodies, and he's not sure whether this helps his heart from falling out of place or makes it all the worse.

"I'm gonna miss you," Naruto sniffs into his clothes, and Sasuke just presses his lips to tan ears and whispers, "I know." Naruto tugs, nails digging into skin, and he can't stop himself from sobbing out. "I don't want you to leave."

"You tried to save me," Sasuke says, and then he lets go. His insides fall to the ground between them, and there's a sad twist to his lips, and he manages to whisper one last time – "it's not your fault" – before his eyes fall shut and he shudders and collapses limp against Naruto's body.

Naruto stays. He can feel the blood escaping Sasuke's corpse so much faster than before, and he can feel it engulfing them. He doesn't move away – he can't. He kisses Sasuke's cheeks, the tip of his nose, his forehead, and he doesn't want to let go. Time feels endless.
