It's another short one. #Jily

James closed the door as lightly as he possibly could, but it was no use, Lily was waiting for him.

"You're an idiot."

"Lily-"

"Idiot." She repeated. "Let me see," Lily cupped his bloodied and bruised face in her hands as gently as she could. "You have to be more careful James."

She began magically healing his bruises and washing away the blood, all while he stood silently. By the time she was done it was two in the morning.

"Goodnight James."

"Lily, I'm not sorry, ok? I get it you're mad, but the order needed me!" He told her. "I couldn't leave them shorthanded. Besides, it was a small fight." Lily blinked at him. "Are you upset because you weren't asked to go?"

"Of course not!" She snapped, but in an instant her face softened. "I just...I don't want you to die. These battles are dangerous, you were only hurt this time, but if you aren't even careful in these "small fights", then...well, maybe next time you won't be so lucky."

"Lily, I'm not going to die." He leaned his forehead against hers.

"You'd better not. For me and Harry." She wasn't angry anymore, she was only enamored by him. The way his hair felt and the way he tensed when she mentioned Harry.

"Harry?"

"Yeah, I don't know what you think about it, but I love it. It has a nice ring to it, don't you think?"

"What are you on about, Lils." He touched the back of his hand to her forehead in search of a fever.

"Did I not tell you?" She murmured in his ear.

"Lily...what is it?" She smiled at him sleepily as they sat down on the couch. Lily grabbed his hand and guided it to her stomach. "What are you-"

"There he is, it's Harry." His eyes grew wide.

"How do you know it's a boy."

"Motherly intuition."

"You're the idiot, Ginger. You didn't even tell me that I'm going to be a father." She dropped her head onto his shoulder. "Bloody hell, I'm going to be a father."

"Love," James said softly. "I promise to be safer on the next mission. You both mean so much to me." But Lily was already asleep.

James never did get to keep his promise because there was no other mission. Three months later Dumbledore was on their doorstep telling them to go into hiding. And the rest is history.

Hope you enjoyed. :D
