Third P.O.V.

Charlie sat at his desk in his office at the police station for the fifth night in a row. The amount of paperwork and cases popping up held him up at the station for hours on end, it seemed. All he wanted to do was go home, sit on the couch, order some pizza, and drink beer while he watched TV; he wanted to relax. Instead, he was at the station with a headache and coffee cups and take-out food boxes that were piled up in the trashcan.

He hadn't been able to do much relaxing in the last few months, what with having to deal with Bella. He could handle Toni, she knew when enough was enough, but Bella, it seemed, had a hard time understanding that. Sometimes he blamed himself, and sometimes he blamed Renee. Charlie felt Renee wasn't hard enough on Bella. It definitely showed when Charlie asked Renee to take Bella with her to Florida.

"Bells," Charlie said as he looked at his daughter in the hospital bed. She had bruises covering her body, but other than that, she was fine.

"Hey, dad," Bella said weakly.

"Now, you know you're not supposed to be talking. I just want you to listen to me," Charlie ordered her. The worst of the bruises was on her neck, so the doctors had checked there first. They found out that her throat was severely sore and her tongue was a bit discolored. She was ordered to only eat and drink liquids, and was ordered to do as little talking as possible.

"I know you haven't been exactly happy living with me in Forks," he said. Bella opened her mouth to protest, but closed it when Charlie gave her a look of warning.

"Don't try to argue with me, Bella," he started. "You've never once had a look of satisfaction on your face since you've been here."

Bella shook her head back and forth, causing pain to flare up in her throat. She knew where the conversation was going. She knew what the two of her parents were planning ever since her mom visited her in the hospital the first time. She wasn't going to let them do it. She would do everything in her power to make them see that what they thought was best for her, wasn't.

"Your mom and I have been talking and we think it's best if you go and live with her down in Florida," Charlie told her. He didn't want to force her to do anything she didn't want to do, but Forks wasn't the right place for her. Knowing how head strong his eldest daughter was, he knew she wasn't going to go without a fight. He could only hope Bella would go willingly.

"I don't want to go," Bella strained out. Her throat was on fire, but she ignored the pain. If she left Forks, there was a huge possibility that she would never be able to see Edward or the Cullen's again; she would lose her chance at immortality. Not only that, but she didn't want to live with her hair-brained mother. She had more freedom living with Charlie and she didn't want to give that up.

"A lot has happened these past few months and I don't think you've taken the move well."

"I'm staying in Forks!"

"Bella, enough," Charlie ordered. "We'll talk about this when you're feeling better."

He got out of his seat and walked towards the door of Bella's hospital room. He liked staying by his daughters' sides and letting them know that he was there for them to lean on, but he hadn't eaten all day and was starving.

"I'm going to the cafeteria to get something to eat, and then I'm going to visit Toni. I'll snag you some applesauce on my way out. For now, please, just rest."

He left the room and made his way to the cafeteria where they were serving pizza. After waiting in line for what seemed like forever, he took three slices and a large-sized Coke before he sat down at one of the empty tables. He was enjoying his first meal of the day when a shadow loomed over him. Charlie looked up and spotted his ex-wife, Renee, with an annoyed expression donning her face.

"Can we speak, Charlie?" she asked impatiently.

"Yeah. Just let me finish eating and we'll talk," he replied.

"Now, Charlie," Renee said.

Charlie sighed and finished his drink before he threw the rest of his food away and followed Renee outside of the hospital.

"Why did you tell me Bella wanted to move back in with me when she told me that you're forcing her to do it!" Renee exploded.

Charlie looked at her incredulously.

"I said that I thought Bella would do better in Florida with you because she seems like she wants to move back in with you," he corrected her. He wasn't going to let her speak to him that way when he hadn't done anything wrong.

"Well, it looks like she doesn't!"

"Whether she knows what she actually wants isn't the problem here, Renee. She isn't happy here, so why should she stay here?" he asked her.

"You are not going to force my daughter to do something she doesn't want to do. She is almost eighteen! You can't dictate her life anymore!" Renee shouted. They were getting looks from people leaving and entering the building, but no one stepped in between the two adults.

"I let our child do whatever she wants as long as it's within reason. The only time I 'dictate' her life is when she's doing something that is harming her or other people," Charlie said.

"You're not going to force anything on my child," Renee said, resorting back to what she previously said.

"I will do what I have to do to help my daughter," Charlie said fiercely.

With a huff, Renee turned her back to her ex-husband and walked back into the hospital. Charlie ran a hand over his face and sighed. After he composed himself, he decided to visit Toni before he left to get some rest.

Charlie's cellphone started ringing, causing him to groan; he knew exactly who would be on the other end. He picked it up and held it to his ear as he waited for the other person to speak.

"Hey, Ch- dad. It's me, Bella."

"Hi, Bells. How are you?"

"I'm fine."

There was silence on the phone, indicating that Bella was going to ask the same question she always asked.

"When am I allowed to come up?"

"We've already been over this, Bella. You aren't allowed up here anymore."

"But dad-"

"No 'buts'. My decision isn't going to change until you show that you've been working on your-"

He was cut off by the dial tone telling him that she had hung up. He placed his phone on his desk and sighed. He had been having the same conversation with her every day since she's left. Every time she called, she would speak first and every time she would hang up on him when she heard something she didn't like.

Charlie couldn't make his oldest daughter happy and it hurt him a bit, but he knew he did what was best for her. He still couldn't believe that Renee had agreed, in the end, to take Bella with her at the end of Bella's junior year, but it had happened and the situation with Bella was least of his worries.

He had to figure out where all the missing locals were disappearing to.
