A View From Afar

This is a short fic I did just as a break from the rest of my work. I hope you enjoy!

I walked out of my tent as the sun cast its nice bright shine over camp in the morning. I smiled as I looked at the many people busily moving around. I could feel the quiet serenity that surrounded all of them; it had taken me a while to not feel like such an outsider around them. Nearly all of the members of the army had someone that cared about.

As proof, I turned to see the nomad Rath walking past the young lady Lyndis as she dusted off some of her clothes, his fingers weaving into hers and leading her slightly away from the army. She went with him willingly, blushing lightly.

I smiled and thought about how much she had grown since the beginning of her adventures. She was such a dear friend.

I walked forward to where breakfast had been set out, grabbing a slice of meat and a biscuit from the piles of food and placing them on a plate before walking over to a log and sitting down. My eyes traveled to the young Serra who stood beside the knight Oswin, nagging him as always as he ate. However, she was silenced when he set his food down and gently grabbed her shoulders. The cleric blushed as he said something and kissed her hand softly.

My eyes left the two to glance over toward Geitz and Karel as the two sat together against a shady tree, talking. Their shoulders touched, but otherwise there was no physical contact; the way they spoke and moved slightly showed it all.

I stood and walked over to set my plate down with the other dirty ones, heading over for a walk in the forest. However, I stopped when I heard soft words.

"Heath, don't…"

"Priscilla, you can't deny this; we'll make it work…I'll make it work."

"No, you can't. We just…can't do this."

"Priscilla, please!"

I kept walking, leaving the couple to deal with their problems as they wished. The quietness of the forest didn't last long, however, as I neared a clearing. There stood Nino, who moving her arms desperately and spoke with an air of desperation. Jaffar stood before her, no emotions portrayed on his still face. However, the mage fell suddenly against the assassin, and he held her against him, both closing their eyes and sighing softly.

I turned and walked toward another exit, finding myself at the other side of camp. Here, I spotted Hawkeye sitting against a tree, Ninian sitting in his lap asleep. I blushed and walked past them, Hawkeye not acting as though anything was weird. Of course, he never acted like anything happened at all.

I continued toward the middle of camp, coming across Farina and Dart who were arguing over something. However, the pirate placed a hand over the pegasus knight's to calm her, and the conversation stopped, the two holding hands quietly.

I sighed as I took a seat once more on a log, watching the army again. Renault and Wallace talked with smiling faces, both of them enjoying the other's company. Matthew smirked as Guy looked for the other half of his biscuit, which the thief had snuck away. However, after a short argument, Matthew returned the bread, Guy smiling and eating it quickly.

I sighed, leaning back against a tent as I enjoyed the warm breeze of summer. The last thing I saw before closing my eyes was Hector kissing a blushing Florina away from the rest of the army.
