Hold my Hand
ONESHOT
Mary McDonald and I walked into the Great Hall. We headed towards where the Marauders were sitting.
My friends and I have been sitting there lately, ever since Mary and Sirius started dating.
Mary walked over and sat down next to Sirius. She pecked him on the lips and started filling her plate with food. There was only one seat left, which happened to be right next to none other than James Potter.
Because of Mary and Sirius, I'd been around him a lot more. A while back he gave up repeatedly asking me out, and at first I was estatic that he wasn't asking me out every other second. But, after a while, I started to miss his annoying antics. Once he stopped, I was kind of disappointed. It felt nice knowing you were loved by someone, even if it's someone who annoyed you greatly.
Admittedly, after spending time with him recently, I've started to like him. He's an awesome guy, once you've gotten past the pigheaded-ness. I took the seat next to James, and smiled at him.
"Good Morning, James." I said.
"Morning, Lily." He replied.
Now that I'm looking at him he seems kind of nervous. I looked towards Remus and Sirius hoping they'd give me some kind of hint as to why he was nervous. But they both just started sipping their drinks nonchalantly and looking anywhere but at me.
I stared suspiciously, but eventually started filling my plate with scrambled eggs, toast, and homefries.
Our little group ate our breakfast with the normal little chatter and small talk we made. After I finished, I announced that I was headed to the library. Normally Remus accompanied me, but today he didn't make any move to get up.
Instead, James stood up saying, "Would you mind if I accompanied you?"
I smiled and replied with an, "Of course not."
James and I walked out if the Great Hall, and then he looked at me struggling with my bag.
"Would you like me to carry that?" he offered.
I agreed and gave him my bag. He seemed to have no trouble carrying it, whereas I was about to fall under the weight.
We reached the library and I got the books I needed, noticing James taking some different books as well.
He suggested we take our books outside because it was such a nice day, and I agreed. We sat there reading until James asked if I would like to take a walk around the lake.
I honestly didn't mind, so we started to walk. As we were walking I couldn't help but wonder what it would feel like to hold his hand.
He suddenly stopped walking, and said, "Lily, can I tell you something?"
"Sure you can." I said, mildly surprised.
"I need you to listen, and please don't interrupt. Lily, I have loved you since the moment I first laid eyes on you on the Hogwarts Express. It's been six years, and that love for you hasn't lessened. I know I've been annoying and arrogant these past few years, but I'm not really like that, and I hope you see that now." He pulled out a single white rose and then continued saying, "I would really love it if you gave me a chance, Lily. Will you go out with me?"
He then offered me the rose. I couldn't help it. I've never had someone say something like that to me. Tears started leaking from my eyes, and I tried to brush them away. I nodded my head afraid my voice would fail me.
"Yes. Yes, of course I'll go out with you, James." I said with a huge smile.
James then bent down and kissed me.
And I kissed him back.
We broke apart and smiled at each other.
Then we continued walking.
In one hand I held the single white rose.
The other hand held James'.
And I got to know what it felt like to hold James Potter's hand.
