'April c'mon, please wake up, please. Wake up!' Matt cried as he stared in horror at April young. He could see the barely visible rising and falling of her chest, the only indication that she was still alive. The colour in her face was draining as she lay still covered in her own blood.
'Matt why did you- oh my god' said Rebekah, genuinely shocked by what she saw.
'Can you feed her your blood?'
'Cant you just call 911 or something?'
'She's dying, please, help her!'
'I cant, if I heal her with my vampire blood Elijah wont give me the cure and I wont get to be human again.'
'How is this even a choice right now? You want to be human? Prove it! Be good, do the right thing and save her life.'
'Matt I cant.'
'Please'
'Okay fine ill do it'
She knelt next to April's head, careful not to get blood on her new dress and bit hard into her wrist and brought her arm to April's mouth for her to drink her blood. After a few seconds she started to gain consciousness.
'Rebekah?' she asked drearily. 'What happened?'
Rebekah looked straight into Aprils eyes 'You won't remember any of this' she said gesturing around the room. 'You came to the dance and had a great time, now go home.'
April got up and walked straight out of the room.
'Thank you for saving her' said matt.
Rebekah got up and walked over to him. 'Elena was right I should have stayed at home.'
'I won't tell anybody what you did. No one has to know about any of this.'
'You would do that for me?'
'I would' Matt said slowly. 'And I was thinking about earlier, maybe I was a little bit harsh, you wouldn't be the worst human.'
Rebekah smiled at him.
'Anyway, I should probably go now, its late'
She looked at him blankly as he turned and started to walk away.
'Wait! Thanks'
'Well it's the truth maybe with some practice at being good you would make a great human'
'No, not just for that, for everything. For being nice to me when no one else was.'
He looked surprised. 'Well, your welcome I guess'
'Can I just ask you one question?'
'Urm sure.'
'Why were you so nice to me? I mean, everybody else just seemed to tolerate me. But you... you were different.'
'Well I guess I just saw something in you that no one else did I..' He looked like he was struggling to find the right words. ' I thought that maybe everyone else just jumped to conclusions and that if I got to know you that maybe I would see your good side.'
'And did you find it?'
'I think that after years of betrayal from your brothers the hurt and the loss and the pain that you've been through, that you have built up these walls around you.'
'Oh' she looked disappointed.
'But slowly you have been taking down the bricks one by one and I have finally been able to see the real you. Deep down you are a good person; you just need to let people see it.'
She smiled at him again and saw that he was blushing bright red.
'My turn to ask a question' he said surprising her.
'Shoot' she replied nervously.
'Why does my opinion matter to you so much anyway?'
Rebekah dropped her gaze to the floor embarrassed.
'Because I envy you. You're human and you're everything that I have ever wanted to be and so much more. Your kind hearted and loving and you think of everybody else before yourself even me and I'm not even worth it.'
'Yes you are. You're amazing and you're beautiful.'
He closed the distance between them a pressed his lips softly against hers.
