YnM does not belong to me, no profit made out of this fic, yada, yada…

If you're wondering, this drabble of a story is set in a fancy pants hotel of some sort...

-

The situation was getting out of hand.

"Hisoka, I don't think we can defeat it right now…"

We had chased – no, the demon chased us to the hotel clubhouse and out the exit to the hotel pool.

The demon still stood – and rather unfazed, I might add – after a number of attacks from me and Tsuzuki. My stamina was slowly ebbing. Tsuzuki attempted to summon a shikigami, but the demon was quick to notice and clawed at Tsuzuki. Panicked, I drew out an ofuda and started to chant.

It had little effect on the demon and it gave a vociferous laugh.

While I distracted the demon, Tsuzuki managed to summon two or so shikigamis. The said shikigamis began to attack the demon ferociously.

But…

The demon didn't seem to mind at all. It turned to me – the vulnerable one at the moment – and slowly dragged itself to my direction.

Damn.

Tsuzuki saw what was happening and tried to stop the demon. The shikigamis attacked the demon with a force that could kill one in an instant. The demon, however, didn't appear to be an ordinary entity.

The demon's pace quickened and I could hear its excited grunts. Slowly, I backed away.

Tsuzuki ran towards the demon and gave it a mighty blow. The shikigamis followed their master, but -

The demon still kept nearing me, though I backed away. The quicker I stepped, the quicker its pace became.

I started to grow agitated. The next thing I remember was being thrown off my balance. I think it was either I tripped or the demon pushed me. I fell into the deep side of the pool. The water felt so heavy that it continued to push me down even after I fell.

My vision was distorted and my hearing incoherent. My airways were blocked and I could feel my heal spinning. I looked up to see red mix with green.

I heard a blood curdling scream.

God, please don't let it be Tsuzuki.

Two more cries.

Please, please, please don't let it be Tsuzuki!

I could feel myself gently slipping, I was losing consciousness. I tried to gasp for air, but all that entered was water.

In one final attempt to get out, I outstretched my hands above me.

This wouldn't do… I'd…

Though the water was ice cold, I felt something warm touch me. Fingers entwined my own – another hand came down and held me by the wrist – and I could feel myself being pulled up.

Tsuzuki was holding me, with a face stained by worry. I looked around my surroundings. The demon had fallen, its blood was splattered everywhere, including the palm tree near the clubhouse exit.

But to the human eye – all that'd appear was just thin air and a feeling of warmness.

We had solved the case.

Taking in bucketfuls of air, I looked at Tsuzuki.

"Thank you."

Tsuzuki appeared serious for a moment, but then he smiled.

"No problem, Hisoka. That's what partners do."
