DISCLAIMER: I do not own Harry Potter, nor do I own "On My Own" (from Les Misérables).

AUTHOR'S NOTE: You should listen to the song "On My Own" from Les Misérables before/during reading, it makes it better. I am using the version of the song from the 2012 film, although I'm not sure if that particular version existed back in 1996-1997, as there were broadway versions of the film back then, so maybe, but the lyrics may have changed a bit over time.

Luna sat in the corner of Malfoy Manor's cellar, her arms around her legs, which were brought up to her chest. She was singing softly, her eyes closed, singing a song from a muggle musical her daddy had brought her to see once, but fit her life almost perfectly.

On my own
Pretending he's beside me
All alone
I walk with him till morning

She thought back to her times at Hogwarts, feeding the thestrals with him, walking through the corridors with him, having a true friend.

Without him
I feel his arms around me
And when I lose my way I close my eyes
And he has found me

She hugged her legs tighter, thinking about the warmth she always felt around him, which she so desperately needed right about now.

In the rain the pavement shines like silver
All the lights are misty in the river
In the darkness, the trees are full of starlight
And all I see is him and me forever and forever

She thought of her time in Malfoy Manor, having to follow whatever orders she was given, being regularly Crucio-ed, and only surviving because she knew that he would eventually come for her.

And I know it's only in my mind
That I'm talking to myself and not to him
And although I know that he is blind
Still I say, there's a way for us

She knew he didn't love her, and probably never would, but she always held out hope, even when he fell in love with Ginny, and picked Ginny over her, when they both loved him equally.

I love him
But when the night is over
He is gone
The river's just a river

She would always sit here, in this corner of the cellar, waiting for him, but he wasn't here, and who knew if he would ever come here. If he were smart, he'd stay away from Malfoy Manor, since it was one of the Death Eaters' headquarters.

Without him
The world around me changes
The trees are bare and everywhere
The streets are full of strangers

Life was horrible without him, bare, hopeless, and without happiness; barely even worth holding onto.

I love him
But every day I'm learning
All my life
I've only been pretending

She had to give up, he didn't love her, and she was only a friend to him, nothing more, and she would never be anything more to him.

Without me
His world will go on turning
A world that's full of happiness
That I have never known

He was happy, well, he would be happy after the war was finished, and he had Ginny, they would get married, maybe even have kids, but she had nobody to marry, nobody that loved her, nobody to have kids with, only friends to be friends with, if they all survived.

I love him
I love him
I love him
But only on my own

She was ready to give up, to just tell the Death Eaters that she didn't care anymore, to kill her. Then she snapped out of her thoughts, wiping away her tears, as she realized more people had been brought into the cellar.

"HERMIONE! HERMIONE!" shouted a very familiar male voice.

She walked towards the voice, and her heart jumped in her chest when she saw his mop of messy black hair, his glasses, he wasn't in great shape at the moment, but it was him, it was Harry. She also noticed a second head of hair, that one being ginger, but her focus was on Harry.

"Harry?" She whispered, staring at the boy she desperately loved, then at Ron for a moment, "Ron? Is that you?"
