A/N: Hey! I hope you enjoy this fic. I usually write Lizzie McGuire and
Everwood fics, but I am a huge ER fan, so I thought I'd try writing a
story! It's set after the stabbing, and both Lucy and Carter survived and
are doing well. Lucy decided to go into psychology, and works at County.
Carter is still an ER doc! Enjoy!!!
Disclaimer: I own Carter. He's all mine! Hehe, I wish!
Expect the Unexpected
Chapter One:
"Now, Mr. Hanlon, do you think you could repeat the three objects I asked you to remember for me?" asked the 30 year old doctor. Her chin length strawberry blonde hair was tucked neatly behind her ears, and her kind blue eyes calmed the elderly man.
"Sure." He replied, with confidence. "A race car, a banana and a picture frame."
"Excellent." She replied, writing her comments on the patient's medical chart. "You certainly have a wonderful memory, Mr. Hanlon." She commented.
"Sharp as a tack." He answered, pointing to his head. "Wish I could say the same for my walking ability."
"Well, you passed your psych evaluation with flying colors, so you should be all set for your hip surgery." She assured him.
"Great! I want to be able to play soccer with my grandkids." He told her.
"Well, I'm no surgeon, but I bet you'll be up and about in no time. I would wait awhile before hitting the field though." She responded. "How old did you say you were?"
"74 years young!" he responded, proudly.
"Well, I hope I am able to play soccer with my grandkids at 74." She replied.
"You have any kids?" he asked, as she finished writing.
"A little girl." She responded.
"How old?" he asked.
"4." She told him.
"I have a grandson who's 4. That's a busy age, let me tell you!" he laughed.
"I'll agree with you there." She replied. "Grace is quite a character."
Mr. Hanlon smiled. Suddenly a beeping noise interrupted their conversation.
"Well, if you'll excuse me Mr. Hanlon, I am needed in the ER. Good luck with your surgery!" she patted his hand, and left the room.
"Thank you doctor!" he called.
She got on the elevator and pressed the 1st floor button. When she reached her destination, she walked to the front desk.
"Did someone page me Jerry?" she asked.
"I think you are needed in the lounge." He answered.
"Ok thanks." She replied, as she walked across the hall into the doctors lounge.
"Hey, did someone call for a psych consult?" she asked, as she entered.
"I did!" came a voice from behind the door.
