A Memory Just Out of Reach
The fan whirrs.
Murmured words.
Funeral…funeral…
The rustling of sheets.
Slow breaths drowned by the fan…
There's a sudden catch
and it all stops.

Grey shadows swaying on the wall
Blurring –
Then suddenly black.
A little light –
Can't reach…
Images far out of mind.
Sadness…an aching feeling…
A funeral?
Something there
Beyond reach.
.
There's only silence.
Everything's seemed to stop…
Beyond existence?
A dream fading away from sight
And when the whirring of the fan returns
and he's awake
the dream – memory? – is gone as well.
