Summary: If she was a princess, then he was her knight.
Disclaimer: Don't own Degrassi. 'Nuff said.
Author's Note: I actually didn't think I'd end up writing another FiAdam fic, but after watching "Umbrella"… I couldn't not. Seriously, guys.

Her Knight
By: Lady Azura

Her life is like a mock fairytale.
To the rest of the world, she has everything a girl could ever want, practically handed to her on a diamond-studded gold platter. She is sophisticated and beautiful and rich; a modern day princess, in her own right.
However, even though she acts the part, she is far from perfect. She has her flaws; she's just better at hiding them than most, and when that doesn't work, she exploits them. She's spoiled and overdramatic, and looks down on the students of Degrassi when she first arrives because she's out of their league and wants them to know it. Most of them get the point. But eventually her brother, her rock, her better half grows tired of her and drifts away. He finds love in one of the peasants, and when she tries to get rid of the competition, it only backfires.
She's sent away for a while, and when she returns, she feels better. She's kinder and less haughty, and determined to turn over a new leaf. She finds comfort elsewhere, only to soon realize that she's wandered straight into a dragon's den. Afraid no one will believe her, she runs away and locks herself in a tower, far away from the dragon disguised as a charming prince.
When the dragon comes back to haunt her, she drowns her sorrows. She doesn't want to deal with it; she wants to numb the pain and forget the memories. But luckily, she's found someone she can turn to in times of crisis; the peasant she once tried to eliminate forces her to come to her senses.
And she does.
She grows a little more, as a person. At least that's what she likes to think. She's stronger, and so when a new prince comes swooping into her life, she doesn't fall for his tricks. She's not as naïve as she used to be. She can see right through him. But he's persistent and doesn't know when to take a hint, and eventually decides to send in reinforcements.
But Adam Torres isn't like anyone she's ever met. He's genuine and when she looks into his eyes, she can see right through to his soul. It scares her and intrigues her at the same time.
What starts out as a quasi-friendship transcends into something much more. He waits for her by her locker, before and after class, and offers to carry her books; he opens the door for her and he treats her like a princess. Not in a condescending or bitter way, like he thinks less of her because she's never had to work for anything, but like he truly thinks the world of her - without putting her on a pedestal. He's not afraid to tease her and flirt with her, and that's refreshing.
She decides she really likes Adam Torres. Even after he convinces her to give his brother a chance; she just doesn't connect with Drew. She finds it amusing how fond she's grown of a tenth grader; a year ago, she wouldn't have even considered it, but she's learned to stop caring about status and wealth, and to start looking at what's on the inside. It sounds corny, even in her head, but if Declan can find happiness in a "lowly peasant" like Holly J Sinclair (even if they were now taking a break to sort out their feelings) then why can't she?
Princes are overrated, anyway.
She'll take a knight over a prince any day.
And if she's a princess in this fairytale called life, then Adam Torres is her knight.

It's a little on the short side so I'll just call it a drabble. Personally, I liked it. I'm definitely not used to writing present-tense, though.
Umm… yeah. This takes place sometime during "Umbrella"… hope you guys enjoyed!
