One day, Alex was listening to his father and Uncle Jonathon talking. They said a word which he didn't know. Alex looked it up in the 'Nic's Ancient Egyptian Encyclopedia'*
It wasn't there. So, not wishing to appear ignorant went to talk to Ardeth Bay, who was visiting.
"Ardeth, what's sex?" our young hero asked.
Poor Ardeth, who was drinking a glass of water, choked and turned bright red.
He fidgeted for a while, not wishing to corrupt this innocent young child.
"Umm, I don't know. Go ask your father." He said finally.
"Thanks a bunch," Alex said and went off to find his father.
Rick O' Connell was having a nice quiet drink when his son came in.
"Hey Alex, what's up?" he asked.
"Dad, I need to ask you something," said Alex.
"Sure, fire away,"
"What's Sex?"
Rick fell out of his chair. Crap, he thought, I always hoped Evy would handle this one.
Then another thought came up: Jonathon, who had been particularly annoying recently.
"Go and ask your uncle," Rick said, "He knows all about sex, he does."
So off a slightly annoyed Alex went to see his uncle. Jonathon was in the middle of……something when Alex knocked on the door.
"Alex, I'm very busy at the moment," Jonathan said.
Alex decided to go straight.
"Uncle Jonathan, what's sex?"
Jonathan hesitated for a moment.
"It's complicated, go ask your mother."
The door slammed shut. Alex was pretty annoyed by this time. He headed out to the library where Evy was working.
"Mum what's sex?" he asked.
Evy sighed. She had been mentally preparing for this for a long time.
"Well, when a man and woman love each other very much……"
"Eww, people actually do that?" Alex asked after a lengthy explanation.
"Yes, people do,"
Alex was quiet for a while. This new information had opened up an entirely new train of thought for him. He decided to go and tell Ardeth about this since he didn't know.
"Bye Mum," he said.
"Bye dear," Evy said. Well, she thought, There's no more embarrassing stuff to go until puberty.
