The woman felt the painful spasms slice through her body. Her swollen stomach told the tale; the baby was on its way. Her husband, grey haired and handsome, but ready to be a father again at the prime of his life, bent over her, clutching her hand, helping through the birth pangs.

"Thata girl, keep going, you're almost there. Good girl." he whispered, stroking her hair.

"Hold on to me, the baby's almost here." the woman, already in her early 40's, struggled against the pangs she'd never known. She had always longed for children of her own, seeing how she had become so attached to her military doctor's daughter, Cassie, but military regulations had hindered her from marrying the man she'd always loved…up until a year ago.

The pains started again, and the blonde haired woman cried out again and again. Doctors hurried around her, and one certain dark haired doctor stood at the end of the bed, waiting for the baby's arrival.

"You're almost there. That's it…that's it…" she said to the couple. The husband's grip on his wife's hand grew stronger with every moment as they waited. The woman screamed in pain before relinquishing the baby inside her to the outside world.

The hearty cries filled the room as the blonde haired woman fell back against her pillow, sweating and panting. The older man leaned down and kissed her. "You did it, Sam, you did it."

"It's a boy!" the doctor said joyfully. Sam grinned up at her husband, tears running unchecked down her cheeks. "A boy, Jack; we have a son."

Jack O'Neill kissed her again. "Then I have the perfect name for him."

The doctor came over and laid the baby boy in Samantha O'Neill's arms. She kissed his downy head, covered in light brown hair. His brown eyes sparkled as he looked up at his parents. Jack leaned down and kissed the baby's head and whispered, "Hello, Jacob."

Sam looked up at Jack. "Jacob…after my father. Oh, Jack, it's a wonderful name." Then she looked down at little Jacob again. "Welcome to our lives, Jacob Carter O'Neill."
