Relationships

While working on a way to locate Franz Hopper and William, Jeremie does a DNA comparison of the gang, from the scanner data.

I do no own Code Lyoko.

Jeremie had thought of a way to look specifically for Franz Hopper and William. He realized if he compared the digital copy of the groups DNA on the supercomputer including Franz Hopper and William that he could determine what portions were unique to them. That way he could narrow the search to those sections of code unique to Franz Hopper and William.

When the comparison was complete Jeremie got an unexpected result that he thought the gang should know about.

When they met in his room, Jeremie started to explain what he had done. "When ever a person is scanned by the scanner the supercomputer scans and saves a digital copy of their DNA. Because of this I can compare the DNA of every one that has ever been scanned to know the degree of diversification and uniqueness of their DNA.

Odd said, "Could you translate that please?" Aelita replied, "When we go Lyoko, the supercomputer saves a copy of our DNA allowing Jeremie see how similar they are."

Jeremie continued, "The current data base contains not only the DNA of the five of us, but of Franz Hopper, William and a dozen specimens of Rattus norvegicus. Aelita added, "The brown rats found all over the factory."

Jeremie continued, "What I found was that our DNA is within the statistically normal variation for our ethnic and national differences and similarities, with the exceptions of two of the comparisons.

Odd interrupted, "Translation please." Aelita replied, "Jeremie found no close relationship between most of us, but he did find two close relationships in the group.

Jeremie continued, "Naturally the DNA comparison showed Aelita to be Franz Hopper's daughter.

Yumi said, OK, We already knew that, so what about the other relationship.

Jeremie continued, "The DNA comparisons showed that Aelita, and Odd have nearly identical mitochondrial DNA as well as some unique nuclear sequences in common. The only conclusion is that they had a recent common female ancestor, specifically their maternal grandmother."

Odd now totally confused asked, "Translation please." Aelita; with smile; said, "Odd it means that we really are first cousins. Specifically, our mothers are sisters."

Odd; now in shock; said, "How?" Jeremie asked, "Odd does your mother have a sister?"

Odd answered, "She did, but her sister died about three years before I was born, and we have not had any contact with her husband and daughter since. I don't even know their names.

Aelita replied, "Well, you know them now!" Odd answered, "But that's impossible. Aelita is only 13 and my cousin would be an old woman of 23 now. When Odd looked at Aelita she was looking at him with an icy steer that sent a chill down his spine

Aelita responded, "Let me give you a simple math problem. Yes, my physical age is 13, but I spent 10 year in the supercomputer during which I did not age. So add 10 to 13 and what do you get."

Odd thought for a moment and then replied with a gulp, "23." Aelita said" Right and that solves the mystery of your long lost cousin." Jeremie added; "Odd, why don't you call you mother an asker her email us a copy of the most recent picture she has of her sister and family."

Odd did so explaining that he needed it for a project on families and gave her Jeremie's email address. A few minutes later they got the email with the picture attached. It clearly showed Franz Hopper with his pink haired wife and daughter. The daughter was clearly Aelita at about six years of age.

Odd said, "Aelita really is my cousin after all. This is going to take some getting use to. On the bright side, at least now I can hang out with Aelita without Jeremie getting insanely jealous."

Everyone even Jeremie, laughed.
