Penguins of Madagascar origin stories

Skipper

In a penguin colony somewhere in Antarctica, two penguins waited for their offspring to hatch from its egg. The offspring yet to hatch was soon ready to meet the world and jumped out of the egg headfirst, breaking the egg's shell with a powerful headbutt. This sudden movement making the chick's father fall over backwards with surprise, from seeing his offspring jump out of the egg. The egg that had kept still on top of his feet for so many months.

"Are you alright?" asked his anxious mate.

"Yeah, it took me by surprise, that's all." the father penguin answered.

"Well it's definitely NOT a girl, you owe me 5 salmons." The father penguin concluded.

The two penguins then turned towards their newly hatched offspring. The chick was small and stocky, he had ice blue eyes, fluffy grey feathers all over his abdomen, legs and flippers and had a distinctive flat head.

The father penguin waddled towards his son and opened his beak.

"Come here you fluffy ball of trouble, come have something to eat."

The father penguin came closer to his son's face, placed his beak near his son's beak and regurgitated some fish into it. The little penguin swallowed it quickly and burped.

Rico

A male penguin was incubating an egg in a penguin colony somewhere in Antarctica. He stood patiently while he waited for his mate to return from a fishing trip.

The penguin was normally a quite hardy, but felt so weak from having nothing to eat for months as he incubated the egg, that a strong gust of wind made him lose balance, sending him falling on his back. The egg he was incubating rolled down a mound of ice further and further away from his reach, before coming to a halt.

"Oh no..." The penguin exclaimed with dread.

The penguin slid down the mound on his belly and rushed over to the egg. He picked it up and held it close to him. He inspected the egg for damage, but his worse fears had come true; The egg had two cracks on it. The cracks were superficial and had not penetrated the outer shell, but had damaged the egg somewhat nonetheless.

The penguin's mate soon arrived, with the worst timing imaginable. She saw the pained look on her mate's face and he explained what had happened.

"It's OK, it's still alive, it won't be like the other penguins yes, but at least it's alive and we'll love it no matter what." The male penguin reassured his mate.

Suddenly the egg shuddered and the shell cracked revealing a small black and white head, with ice blue eyes and spiky black feathers on its head.

"Hello little one…" the female penguin said to her offspring.

The baby penguin wailed incomprehensible sounds, in an unsually deep voice for a newly hatched chick.

"What a strong voice you've got!" The male penguin remarked and bent down to feed his chick.

The male penguin's beak approached Rico's face, prompting Rico to open his beak. Rico's father then regurgitated some fish into Rico's beak.

Rico closed his eyes, relishing the delicious taste of the fish. Once Rico had finished the fish, he wailed for more.

"You're a hungry one, aren't you?" The female penguin cooed and watched as her beloved mate fed her ravenous son.

Private

Sam Fishy stood still as he waited for his egg to hatch. He looked down at his egg to check for progress. Nothing. The egg still hadn't hatched.

His mate had taken this opportunity to speak with some acquaintances of hers. It was taking so long to hatch, that there was no harm in wandering away from the egg for a while was there?

But her assumption was wrong, because back where Sam was standing, her naughty offspring was beginning to hatch the minute she wasn't there.

"It's hatching, come quickly!" Sam Fishy cried out to his mate.

She waddled as fast as she could towards his mate and made it just a time to see his offspring's head pop out of the egg.

"You made it just in time!" Sam told her with relief as his offspring fully emerged from its egg.

It was the cutest baby penguin he had ever seen. He was covered in grey fluff, had ice blue eyes and was small and podgy. In other words downright adorable.

"He is the cutest baby penguin in Antarctica." Sam announced with pride. Sam then proceeded to feed his adorable son.

Upon tasting the tasty fish, the chick closed its eyes, flapping his tiny flippers with joy.

Kowalski

"Elsa look! I can see its beak coming out" A male penguin gestured towards an egg that was perched on top of his feet as it began to hatch. A little orange beak protruded the round egg, making the shell crack.

The two penguins watched in anticipation as their offspring emerged from its egg.

"He's beautiful Albert! Just look at him!" Elsa admired her newly hatched son.

The penguin chick was tall and lean, with bright ice blue eyes. The chick looked around its surroundings, ever so curious. He then spotted something appealing to him; a piece of egg shell.

Subconsciously the chick must have realized that this object was important. He came closer to it, turning his head to admire it from different angles.

From the very first moments of his life, it soon became clear that the chick was quite inquisitive, a trait he would continue to have for the rest of his life.

Thank you for reading my story, I hope you enjoyed it.

Interesting bit of trivia: I named Kowalski's parents after Albert Einstein and his spouse Elsa.
