A/N: Another short, drabble-esque piece, this time written about Priest Mahado and the Pharaoh.
{Warnings: SPOILER The Pharaoh's true name is used. PAIRING Hints of Sealshipping-Priest Mahado x Pharaoh. If you don't like it, either replace the few words that make the Sealshipping apparent in order to make them best friends in your mind, or just don't read. Don't waste my time by flaming me.}
To Face A New Day
Mahado sighed softly, leaning his forearms on the balcony's railing as he looked out over the slowly waking city. The sun was just barely rising, casting a soft blue-grey light over the normally golden scene in front of him. A breeze swirled gently past him, teasing the edges of his cloak around behind him, making him smile slightly.
"You know, Pharaoh..." He chuckled softly and shook his head. "I never used to see the beauty of the sunrise for what it really is." He looked up slightly at the cloudless sky, watching as the last stars slowly faded from view. "The sunrise… is like a new chance. A new opportunity to learn, and continue, and live." He looked down at his hands, touching his fingertips together lightly. "It is a gift from Ra to guide us into the new day, and like each day, each sunrise is different. The light changes, the colors shift, and time flows on." He sighed softly and closed his eyes. "Each day we feel the same pains and joys as the one before, but each sensation is as different as the shadows that the rising sun casts from dawn to passing dawn."
He half smiled sadly, a single tear slipping down his cheek from one of his closed eyes. "So why, Atem…" He opened his pained eyes to look up at the steadily brightening sky. "Why did I have to learn such a beautifully simple truth in such a heartbreaking way?" He barely noticed his rising tears. "Why did things here have to change so much more than the colors of the sunrise ever could…?" He let another tear roll slowly down his cheek as he looked longingly at the sky, his heart aching for the presence that usually stood beside him to watch the arrival of the new day. "Why did you have to leave me…"
Another breeze whispered past him. It caressed the lonely priest's cheek like the tender brush of his lost lover's kiss, murmuring what he imagined to be the words he so desperately longed to hear, before being swept away by the brilliant dawn, leaving him to stand alone in the face of the ever-changing light of the sunrise.
A/N: Musical inspiration: An instrumental remix of the German version of 'Once Upon A December' from Anastasia.
I greatly enjoy the cannon relationship between Pharaoh Atem and Priest Mahado, but for the sake of this piece of writing, I made it a little more than that. Again: don't like? Don't read, don't flame. Thank you.
