He was standing in front of the door of her room, discussing in his head whether it had been a good to come. Their date ended miserably and seeing her again probably wouldn't make it better… but she had to know the truth. Miles knocked slowly twice on Lara's door. His instincts were telling him to walk back to his room and let it go as the door opened and Lara was standing in front of him with hope readable in her eyes. Those shiny eyes… He couldn't do it. Couldn't tell her the truth because it would shatter her.

"Miles, what are you doing here? Do you feel better?" She asked him with concern in her voice. "Uh… Yeah I do but… uh…", he started stuttering just like Alaska told him he would. He had to at least say something.

The weight on his shoulders had everything to do with the triple and a half date so he started with half the truth. "Listen…I'm sorry about what went down on our date. It's the reason why I've tried to avoid you. I puked on your pants. It was so embarrassing and I'm really sorry that it happened and that you had to drag me to the hospital with Takumi. The whole date was a failure and disappointing. I apologize for wasting your time and I'm asking you to forgive me, to put this in the past and start over."

Saying these things did make him feel better. Saying more would be a risk. "You don't have to be sorry, it wasn't your fault and before the incident I actually had a great time! So yes, I forgive you." Her answer sounded honest. She looked at him with what only can be described as love. That was when he broke inside. There she stood, an adorable and nice young woman. A woman every man would be proud to call his. The problem was that Miles knew he wouldn't which is why he had to go.

"Thanks", he said, walking away and not looking back. Not looking at her surprised and disappointed face as she had probably expected him to stay a little longer and say more than just a plain apology.

But if he stayed, he would only make it worse. He knew if he stayed, it would come out and she would know. It would wipe out every hope from her eyes. No, he couldn't tell her. Wouldn't tell her because she could never know. The real reason he had been avoiding her was because he was in love with someone else… he was in love with Alaska.
