Hey everyone. This story was written for both Holmes Mystery Challenge, and Guess the Name Funfair Event on Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. For Holmes Mystery Challenge I used Chapter 2 prompt spell Lumos. For Guess the Name I used the Stuffed Werewolf Teddy prompt of Aiden - Tom Riddle. I hope you all enjoy Close Call.

Tom Riddle knew that he could get into deep trouble with the Ministry for practicing magic outside of school but it had been accidental. Accidental magic didn't fall into the realm of practicing magic outside of school. Right? Plus considering he'd "saved" the two muggle children he'd lured into the cave he could probably talk his way out of any trouble.

"Could you please tell us in your own words what happened on day of June 21?" the Ministry offical kindly asked the young children sitting in front of her. She didn't want to scare the two muggle children any further than they had been scared. "Take all the time you need, dearies."

The boy seemed the braver of the two. He looked at the younger child, the girl, who still visibly shaken from the experience of what had happened to them. It was the boy who spoke up and told the story.

"Tommy," he said pointing towards young Riddle, "took us to this cool cave near the beach we were visiting. He said it would be a fun idea to go exploring the cave. It seemed like it would be a fun idea."

The young girl nodded at this not looking at Riddle or the Ministry official.

Tom stared at the boy and girl. He pretty much had them both scared by now and he knew it for that matter. He had cornered Billy in the hall and told the young boy if he told the truth to anyone who asked they revisit the cave and neither child would escape. He made it a point to keep eye contact with the other child the whole interview.

"What happened in the cave that has your friend so afraid?" the kindly Ministry woman asked trying to get the young girl to open up about what happened. She gave the young girl a friendly smile hoping that it would open the child up some.

"The scary people came from the water," the girl whimpered shrinking closer to Billy shaking like a leaf.

"Don't worry, Sally," Billy whispered. "They won't hurt us as long Tom is here is." He looked over at Riddle who nodded approvingly at the statement.

"What happened when the scary people came from the water?" asked the Ministry woman.

"They tried to get Tommy, Sally, and me because Tommy put something in a bowl of water," Billy answered simply. "I didn't see what it was because those people just started pouring out of the water and trying to drown us. And then Tommy said something strange that I've never heard before and a big light came from nowhere."

"What did you hear, Mr. Riddle, say, Billy?"

"It sounded like Loomer," the boy replied sounding younger than he actually was.

"You used the Lumos spell?"

"Yes," was young Riddle's only reply.

"That will be all," the Ministry official told the three children. "You've all been very brave." She turned to Tom Riddle after the younger children left. "You will hear from the Ministry in three days on whether you've been expelled or not." With that she was gone.

Three days later Tom Riddle got a letter from the Ministry of Magic informing him he had not been expelled from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He almost cried he was so happy not to be expelled. Next time he had to hide something he'd make sure to do after he graduated from school. Either that or was in school at the time. He got lucky this time he knew he wouldn't next time.
