Lia Bowinger was a cute, unpopular fifteen year-old girl. She already knew that she was unpopular, but somebody had to tell her she was cute. Lia had very short, blond-brown hair and sapphire eyes. She never talked. Not that she couldn't, she just didn't want to. Lia hadn't talked to anybody but her wolf-like dog, Rontu, anymore. They called her "Mute Girl," and she often got beat up about it. She never wanted to get beaten up, but she had to act like a normal kid nowadays. If she wanted to, she could dodge almost any attack. Lia had heard about a boy at school. She didn't know his real name, he was simply referred to as "Mute Boy." She'd heard that he'd grown up in Ordon village, and also that he'd been to Snowpeak and Gerudo Desert. One day, Lia saw the boy walking all by himself through the halls (they're both fifteen, and they go to a boarding school) and Lia thought he looked lonely. She walked quickly to catch up to him, but then he very rudely pushed Lia aside and walked ahead. Lia was determined to find out about this boy. She had noticed that he looked just like her. After she'd went back to her room, she noticed that somebody else must have moved into the room. But she couldn't worry about that right now, she had things to do. She opened her chest that she kept at the foot of her bed and got out her sword, shield, bow, quiver with arrows, red potion and lantern. She also brought her bottle of spare lantern oil, in case she needed it. She decided that she was ready, after she'd put on the tunic that her father had given her. She jumped out through the window, ready to fight the monsters nearby.

She'd been walking around for a while, thinking it was a peaceful night, when she spotted something. She could tell that it was a boy, about her age, but she couldn't see anything else. She knew she would need her lantern for something. She lit the lantern and, within seconds, the boy saw it. He ran toward Lia, and he had a sword and shield. Lia put her lantern away, then quietly walked slowly away from where she had been seconds ago.

"Who's there?" the boy called out, in a voice much like Lia's father's voice. "Are you a human or a monster?" Lia didn't say anything. "Humans know better than to reply. Monsters don't. You should get away from here. It's not safe in the dark of the night." the boy said. Just then, the two heard a noise in the darkness. The boy pulled out his sword quickly, but Lia, wanting not to be heard, pulled hers out slowly. She took her shield off her back, in case she would need it. They waited in silence for ten seconds. Then-

"Woof!" a dog barked. Right in front of them. Lia could see the dog: it was Rontu. But the boy brought his sword down, and Lia put her sword in front of Rontu so she wouldn't get hurt. The boy knew, as the sword had come out of nowhere, that this dog belonged to somebody, and that somebody had already known he was there. The boy listened for the smallest of sounds; breathing, footsteps – anything that would give a presence away. Then he heard it. Light footsteps, soft breathing. In other words, a girl. The boy put his sword away. He was going to perform one of the seven hidden skills the ancient hero had taught him: the Mortal Draw. He reached toward his sword, waited for the enemy to attack. It came quickly. But the moment he'd taken his sword out, the attacking blade withdrew and in seconds, came to protect. When the boy brought his sword down, he didn't touch anything. He was confused. Nobody could counter the Mortal Draw. . .unless they had known what he was going to do beforehand. . .
