Well. This is a little story I started one Saturday morning. I was bored and started watching some Death Note amv's and I realized a little something about this 're hardcore. And scary. I honestly can't imagine any fluff coming from those two. I mean, admittedly, I haven't actually watched the series. Or read the manga. Heh. But I've read a lot about them. Annnyways. I was listening to Hero by Nickelback and Skillet, and this little idea popped in my head. So here we are.
Disclaimer: All I own is a toothbrush and some old socks. Definitely not Death Note. Or Skillet/Nickelback!
Anyways, enjoy!
"Light-kun?"
"Do you consider yourself a hero, L?" Light repeated.
L chewed on his thumb thoughtfully; his dark eyes gave nothing away. He sat in his normal crouched position atop his computer chair. He had been working diligently on the Kira case until Light had suddenly asked his question.
"Why would I consider myself a hero Light-kun?"
"Well you fight for justice, solve crimes, save people's lives…" Light trailed off at L's expression.
"Is that what makes a hero, Light-kun?"
"Well, by definition I guess, but I'm asking if you believe yourself to be a hero."
"Does that mean Light-kun considers me a hero?" L mused, eyes flashing with amusement.
Light spluttered a bit.
How did L always pick the least expected conclusion from his words? Light simply threw a question out there hoping to see L react, and now he was the one being tested.
Always tested for what he didn't do. And always failing. Does that make him Kira? Light wondered. That despite the fact that he has the truth on his side, he constantly fails L's test.
"Light-kun?" L asked, eyes on Light with that glint of amusement still on his pale features.
"What? Oh. Well, I suppose if you look at the character L and all he has done, he is similar to a hero… but you…"
Light glanced wearily at the chain connecting his wrist to L's.
"I am just a nuisance in your life constantly causing problems for you because you are Kira and I know it?"
"I am not Kira!" Light yelled irritably. He supposed that he should be accustomed to the Kira accusations by now, but something else had bothered him.
"Nuisance, L?"
"Hmm?" L asked, looking dull.
"You believe I consider you a nuisance?"
L looked at Light for a moment.
"I'm certainly not your hero."
Light couldn't help the low chuckle that fell from his mouth.
"What do you find so amusing Light-kun?" L asked, his face blank.
"It's nothing L." Light inserted smoothly, "I just didn't expect you to say something so… cheesy." He laughed again.
The corners of L's mouth pulled slightly downward as he thought over this.
"I only spoke the truth Light-kun. There is an 87% chance you do not find me hero-like at all. And a 34% chance you find me a nuisance."
"You made the assumption I thought you were a nuisance based on 34%?" Light asked bewildered.
Usually L was much more certain in his theories before he said them aloud. Except of course, Light thought bitterly, in the theory of him being Kira.
7% is not nearly enough for one to accuse a person of being a mass-murderer! Unless L's percentages were much higher than he let on. Damn you, L!
"Well," L began quietly, "the percentage did lower significantly when you questioned my word choice."
"I don't think you're a nuisance" Light stated bluntly. He was tired of the constant percentages thrown at him, his words analyzed over and over looking thoroughly for any hidden meanings or emotions. It brought Light a slight amount of relish to prove L's theory wrong. But despite all of that, Light didn't think L was a nuisance. When L wasn't questioning Light in that way that he knewL was testing him, or watching him with those critical eyes, Light liked talking to L. In fact, he loved it. Light was a genius. His mind worked above many, his thoughts too complex or abstract for most people to grasp, but L. L was the perfect discussion companion. It was amazing to break from the monotony of simple thoughts and words to actually think when he talked to L. He didn't have to go through great pains to get L to understand what he meant. He just knew.
"Then perhaps I am your hero Lighti-kun?" L questioned, breaking Light out of his thoughts.
Light became weary again.
"No L, you're not my hero." Light sighed.
L eyed Light, letting his gaze fall across the brunette boy, taking in his slouched appearance and dull eyes.
"I don't need a hero." Light spoke tiredly.
"Light-kun believes he is above having one to look up to or help him in his time of need. 9%."
Light stared at L. Then he launched from his chair to punch him square in the jaw; landing heavily next to L as they both flew onto the floor. L sat up and looked irritably at Light, rubbing his now-aching jaw. Light groaned and sat up as well. He looked at L dejectedly, waiting for L to kick him, physically preparing himself for the blow, but mentally not caring about it happening.
Why had Light become so dejected. He didn't even know himself.
"Light-kun's violence towards my person is not helping his suspicion of being Kira." L murmured half-heartedly, more distracted by the boy's sudden disheartened face.
Light merely looked at L in the face and whispered "I'm sorry."
L was taken aback. The great Yagami Light never apologized. Especially not for something as trivial as a light punch to the face, well relatively light compared to his other ones. Now L was more than intrigued.
"What is the reason for Light-kun's sudden unhappiness?" L asked, letting his thumb fall on his lips and curling into his crouched position on the floor.
Light was at a loss. He realized why he was so unhappy now, and he just didn't know what to do about it. Tell the detective? No. Surely that would raise his percentage. But he was afraid. He needed L's words to comfort him, but the detective seemed incapable of such words.
"What if I was Kira?" The words were barely a wisp slipping from Light's silky lips. L's eyes widened marginally, his only sign of shock. But on the inside, his senses were in chaos. What has come over you Light? Why would you let something so uncalculated and suspicious slip from your lips? Oh. The look on his face. He needs a response.
"Then Light-kun will go to prison and be executed." L replied curtly, not letting any emotion show through. Dammit! That's not what you wanted to say!
Light looked up into L's eyes at these words with a wince. He really wouldn't care. Not a single hint of sadness or even flicker of emotion at the thought of me dying.
Light was done. His body felt hollow just as L's eyes had been at the mention of Light's death.
"I understand L. Thank you." Light said in a dull monotone as he stood, dragging the detective with him as he returned to his seat. His eyes no longer holding a glimmer of sadness or determination or anything, they were not blank as L's, but devoid. His beautiful amber eyes did not glow or spark, but merely were.
What has happened to him? L thought, slightly fearing Light's abrupt change in demeanor. He uprighted his chair and sat, letting his knees pull into his chest as he stared at the boy and nibbling on his thumb in concentration. What new puzzle have you become Light Yagami?
Soo, I was a little afraid to say this in the beginning, but this is the first FanFiction I've ever written, because well, people can be judgemental. -.-
Buuut. Since this is, I would be crazy happy to get reviews/constructive criticism. :D
A/N: So I've had to reupload this like 3 times now everytime I wanted to fix an itty-bitty mistake or change the authors note.
Is there anyways I can fix it without losing the reviews and followers?
Thaaanks.
