A/N - This story is mainly about JJ's journey through high school. A LOT of characters from CM will be here, regardless of age. In this fanfiction, they're all ninth graders. So I hope you enjoy it! Please review and stuff, it is my first fanfiction so I can only hope it bodes well with you!
Disclaimer - I do not own any of the characters, they belong to CBS. I will probably add in a few of my own characters, so I do own them. Have a nice day ;)
"In the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed."
Khalil Gibran
"JJ! Aren't you excited? It's our first day of high school!" Penelope shook my arm as she adjusted her super-size sunglasses in the mirror. I sighed. Penelope had a tendency to see everything through rose tinted glasses. I, on the other hand, saw everything as it was – pretty damn suckish. Why would I get excited about high school? Rosaline, when she had been alive, had pretty much summed it up for me – hell. I had already pictured the cliques that would surround me in just under an hour, the nerds, the jocks, the cheerleaders and the only sane people in Grade 9 – including Pen and I.
"Pen, its just high school. There's no point in making any effort." All the same, I straightened my skirt and took one last long look in the full length mirror in the corner of my room. Pen nudged me.
"Check you out, little miss 'not going to make an effort'. You look good though!" I looked at my outfit, a little black skirt, and a cute little top with owls on it that Pen bought me for my last birthday and a cream cardigan to match. It was kind of bland compared to the extravaganza of an outfit that my best friend was currently wearing. Penelope was a very creative dresser, but I liked to call it raiding a fancy dress shop in the dark and hoping for the best. Today's outfit was a combination of rainbow knee length socks, a green 1950's style dress and a white shawl, not forgetting the array of bracelets and necklaces that made clunky noises whenever she moved. I had to admit, I admired her style.
"JJ! Penelope! The bus will be here soon and I need to take your photos!" My mom yelled up the stairs. Sandy Jareau, world class photographer, specialising in before school photos. She wasn't really a photographer but she's probably taken more photos than one. The fireplace is full of James and Rosaline's photos. I'm there too, obviously. I yelled back.
"Coming mom!"
The bus was over-crowded, with a large group of sophomore boys throwing spit balls at the back of the bus. Pen and I shared a look that screamed 'Help me!' and sat as far away from them as possible, but not too close to the front so people wouldn't think we were nerds. I had already recognised a few people from middle school. Grant Anderson was sitting next to Kevin Lynch in the row across from us and I'm pretty sure I could see either Haley Brooks or Ashley Seaver in front of me – those girls were practically identical, with their blonde hair and blue eyes. Sure, Pen and I had the same traits but Pen was easily recognizable by the pink streaks in her hair and I was usually found with her. There seemed to be loads of freshmen on the bus that I didn't know. A girl with dark brown hair behind us, a black boy sitting on his own near the front and another blonde girl in front of Grant and Kevin. I leaned back on my seat.
"This is going to be one interesting year Penelope. One very interesting year indeed."
