"I told you that I'll always find my way back to you." You shot him a sad smile, you brushed the back of your hand against his before lacing your fingers together.
Reiner sighed, running his free hand down his face. "And, like the last five lifetimes, I said I didn't want to be found." He craned his neck to look you in the eyes.
"I forgive you for what happened. We all do."
"You don't understand," He untangled his hand from your grasp as he turned away from you. "I hurt people. I killed thousands of innocent people."
You felt your heart clench as the memories of one of your many past lives came flooding back. "Reiner...," you weren't able to keep your voice from cracking. "That was ages ago..."
A bitter chuckle escaped his lips, "It still bothers you."
Your color eyes burned as you fought back the inevitable tears. "It does. But," you paused, swallowing thickly, "You won't let us move on." You pressed your body against his muscular back as you wrapped your arms around his midsection, "You keep pushing me away." Your fingers bit into the fabric of his shirt, you didn't want him to slip through your fingers once again. "I love you...," your voice was barely above a whisper.
Reiner tensed as he clenched his fists at his side.
"Please..."
Reiner's honey orbs slid shut, "You're just as stubborn as Jaeger..." He placed his hands over yours, his thumbs lightly stroking your knuckles.
A small smile made its way to your lips. Maybe... just maybe you would finally have your happy ending.
