All right, this is my first Office fanfic. I love Jim/Pam, but I wanted to write something different. You're supposed to guess who Pam is talking to, okay? Well, let's just see how this turns out. Any critcisms and tips are welcome and appreciated. Ah, yes, I almost forgot. I own none of these characters or the show, but I'd give my Angel Sanctuary collection for Jim :) That's saying a lot.
Unlikely Friends- or The Curse of a Certain Desk
It had taken quite a while for him to open up, but it was well worth the wait, she thought.
"She wants you guys to get tattoos together?" Pam asked laughingly.
He nodded nervously.
"And what did you say?"
"What could I say, Pam? She never lets me get a word in," he said morosely.
She laughed again, "You're even worse than I am."
Another nervous look from him.
"So," he cleared his throat, "I was wondering if you wouldn't mind designing mine?"
She stopped giggling. She had never been asked to design something so permanent, so personal. Honored that he would even ask, this time it was she who looked nervous.
He noticed and smiled. "I never said I'd get matching tattoos, and I figured that since you're the office artist if maybe you'd like to try your hand at tattoo design."
She smiled softly at him. "I'm honored, really, but it's so permanent--"
"We're friends now, right?" he cut her off with the question.
"Yes, we are."
"I trust you, Pam. And I'll come up with the concept. I'll give you artistic license, but most of what you're doing is drawing, okay?" He smile lost it's nervous edge.
"And you'll tell me if you don't like it? Promise me."
"I promise. I won't accept anything short of perfection," he said mockingly.
Her smile widened. "No pressure or anything, right?"
"None whatsoever," he assured her.
"So how did you get out of matching tattoos and each other's names?" she asked teasingly. "I could just see you with 'Property of--'"
"That's where I drew the line. I also reminded her that the name thing it the ultimate K.O.D. for a relationship."
"K.O.D.?" she looked puzzled.
"Kiss of death, Pam. As in our relationship would end horribly soon after getting those tattoos." He looked contemplative for a moment. "You know, maybe I shouldn't have dismissed the idea so quickly."
She laughed loudly. He smirked, looking down at his watch and jumping up. When he looked at her his nervous mask was firmly in place.
"Lunch time is up," he said quietly.
Pam got up, still giggling slightly.
"I'll email you some ideas in an hour or so," he said as he held the door open for her.
Jim looked up as they came out of the break room.
Maybe it not Pam, he thought hopefully, but the desk, his old. Maybe whoever sat at that desk was made to fall in love with the little receptionist, but only if you sat there; like an office curse.
He shook his head sadly. Too bad he couldn't believe his new theory. He wasn't sitting there anymore, was he?
Note: So what do you guys think? Should I leave it as a one-shot or develop it more? I don't know what to do! Like I said, I love Jim/Pam, but I want to see where Pam and this other guy go. This is still really rough because I just wanted to get a feel for the new pairing. Any suggestions?! Thanks.
