I watched helplessly on the sidelines as Enzo's smile faded fast. By his expression no one had informed him that Julian was back. I'm sure he noticed now as Lily had her claws all over him, showing him off to her guests. The bouquet of flowers Enzo had been holding proudly when he walked in were tossed aside in a nearby trash can. My heart ached for him. Knowing Enzo, it didn't seem like he'd be the type of guy that would easily bring flowers to just anyone. For a few more moments my eyes followed him as he walked away, but I refused to leave it alone. Throwing Lily a disgusted look I followed after my new found friend.
I murmured apologies as I pushed my way through the crowd. I walked as fast I could to catch up, fearing once he was away from the party he would speed off.
"Hey." I called out. "Leaving so soon?" I tried to sound casual as I caught my breath.
"Not really in the party mood." He answered.
"Yeah, I kind of saw what happened back there." I admitted.
"That's great. You here to tell me I told you so?" His voice showed defeat.
"Never. I wanted to see if you were okay, and to tell you she doesn't deserve you. You're too good for her." The words came out freely, surprising me a little.
He remained silent, his eyes falling to the ground beneath his feet. I took a breath and walked forward. "Enzo, I know you feel grateful to her, she saved your life I get that. But you're a good guy, sure you've done your share of bad things, but we all have."
"You haven't." He looked up at me then and my heart skipped a beat.
"Trust me I have."
He shook his head. "You have the biggest heart of anyone I know. I've never known you to be selfish. You help your friends no matter what, you risk your life to help others who frankly don't deserve you."
I was overcome with emotion, so much so that my heart seemed to react before my brain could. I flung my arms around his neck, my lips landing softly against his. It took him a moment to respond and I was terrified I had made a mistake. Then I felt his arms wrap around me and his tongue brushed against my lips. We stayed in our own little world for several minutes ignoring the sounds around us. When we broke apart he was the first to speak.
"Maybe we should get out of here." He said with a devilish smile.
"Not yet." I replied grabbing his hand and walking back toward the party. I wanted Lily to see what she had chosen foolishly to give up.
