This poem (or fragments of it, at least) will appear in the Pirates of the Caribbean story which is demanding to be written down.
The Sea Surpasses
(the thousand things)
There are a thousand beautiful things in this world
And there are a thousand fickle things in this world
A thousand things which still bring joy
And a thousand things which will bring grief
But the sea surpasses all of these
In this world, a thousand things will break
And in this world, a thousand things will fade
And in this world, a thousand things will sail away
Ne'er to come home again
But the sea is not among these
There are a thousand pain-filled things in the world
And in this world are a thousand things which do inspire
And there are a thousand things which whisper comforts
In the dark night, that dawn is near
But the sea surpasses all of these
