Mal couldn't believe his ears. How could they just lay themselves down at at the mercy of these monsters? Mal looked up at the sky, not seeing the incoming Alliance ships he was looking for a sign from the God he'd once thought would see them through. How could He let these people win?
As Bendis fell to the ground, Mal turned to Zoe. She had been there for him throughout the whole war. Without her Mal knew he wouldn't be standing. They had been through everything together. When he'd gotten wounded so bad the rest had left him for dead Zoe carried him to the nearest Med Station. The nights when bombs were landing to close for comfort Zoe had been there even when he was sure they were going to die.
With Zoe Mal knew that whatever the Alliance would do, she would never let him fall.
