SUMMARY: This is what I think happened between the time the Doctor and Rose left the alternate universe and showed up in Jackie's living room.

Pete Tyler had just denied Rose. In this dimension, he didn't have a daughter and he didn't believe Rose when she told him who she was. He walked away and left her standing there, looking so lost and alone.

'If only he knew how wonderful this girl is,' thought the Doctor, cursing the man for hurting Rose that way.

They started toward the TARDIS. Then, it was Mickey's turn to crush Rose even farther by announcing, with a heretofore unknown bravado, that he was staying behind.

When Mickey pointed out that there wasn't anything between himself and Rose and hadn't been for a while, the Doctor was relieved but worried about Rose.

She was sobbing brokenly as they walked into the TARDIS, leaving Mickey behind to start his new life.

The Doctor didn't look at her as he set the coordinates to take them away from there. She sat, dejectedly, on the bench near the console, still crying.

Once everything was set and the crack in time mended, he sat down next to the blonde and wrapped his arms around her. She was still sobbing and buried her head in his shoulder.

"How about I take you home for a visit?" he asked quietly once she had calmed down a little.

She looked up at him. "Really?" she asked.

"Coordinates are already set. I thought you needed to see your mother."

"Thank you."

The Doctor was surprised. "For what?"

"For everything. You've always been a shoulder when I need one and you're always there to talk to. How often have you sat worrying about me instead of sleeping?"

"I don't sleep much. Too much to do." They both knew that was a lie. It was nightmares that kept him awake much the same as they did for days following the little catastrophe with her father.

But Rose was tired now. She nestled into his shoulder, exhausted by her tears. Before the Doctor knew it, she was asleep. He leaned back. "Lights down please. For our Rose."

The lights dimmed and the Doctor closed his eyes, intending just to rest for a moment. Both of them slept deep and dreamless for the short time it took them to get back to Rose's London.
