The first time she changes, it is pure agony, fire racing down her spine and into every pore. Slowly, her skin changes to her favorite shade of royal blue, and she realizes she is above them all.

The second time she changes is moments later. She needs to be who she was before to make sure she escapes, but never again afterwards. She is herself now, and that is the real truth.

The first time she changes into a male form, it breaks, sending her back into her new form stuttering and gasping. She is not used to the new rush of hormones, the ache in her back that comes with a lack of……stuff in the front, and the new way her pants fit against her. Even if her form was male, her mind is female, and she isn't about to stop referring to herself as such. But she keeps trying: it is less obvious that it is her if she hides as a male.

Ten years later, the feeling is almost as natural as a second skin, and she uses a male form to befriend a boy who can no longer open his eyes without frying everything he looks at. It is instinct that brings her lips to his own, and that same instinct that sends her out the door, never to see him while she is in that form again. It is almost a shame, for the boy she was portraying was beautiful. He had dark brown hair and sapphire blue eyes that reached into anyone's soul. It was that boy that made her hide in her room and cry when Scott became Cyclops, and joined Xaiver's side.

Fifty years later, she realizes she cannot die of old age unless she stops changing. If she stays in a form for too long, she will die. Twenty-five minutes after she realizes this, she jumps off a bridge.

Only to be saved by a beautiful boy with dark brown hair and sapphire eyes that reached into her soul.

His name is Remy Le'Beau, and it is irony that she knows him as Gambit. He is one of Xavier's (taught now by Cyclops: Physically, the Professor is dead, mentally, Scott is.) He smiles softly at her. "No need for death, mon ami. Morte, it does not look like it would fit you."

She glances down, and surprisingly, it is as he has said. Her body has shed its female skin. Changing her. Her natural body fell to its death, leaving behind a shape shifter boy. Her son? She still has her memories, that is for certain. But now everything is in a different light, like the boy has a different upbringing….

Two months later, a shy, blue skinned boy shows up at Xavier's mansion behind Gambit. Nightcrawler learns he has a brother, and most of the X-Men learn that Remy is bi.

After all, when your boyfriend has more than one skin, anything is possible.

A/N: Umm. Yeah. A few months back, I realized Mystique could be anyone she wanted. If she wanted to go out and have herself a bit of gay sex, she could. But when I looked, there was no fan fiction on it. And that made me think that it was original, and I came up with this. Flame me if you want.
