Author's Notes: I do not own Hey Arnold. This fanfiction is based on characters from the show. I do apologize that the characters will be out of character a few times.
Ch 1: Back Home
It has been years since everyone in the neighborhood has graduated from high school. Some left town to attend a four-year university while a few others stayed in town and began their careers. One in particular left town to achieve her dream of traveling the world. Helga G. Pataki traveled to many places around the world from Europe to Africa and South America. She not only traveled to the continents, but also worked there for a few months helping her gain experience. Sadly, reality had hit her in the face and she had to return home immediately.
"I'm home!"
No answer. Helga put her bags down and walked down the hallway.
"Hello? Is anyone home?"
Silence.
"Great. No one is here to greet me. Like always."
She returned back to the entrance, grabbed her bags and headed upstairs to her bedroom. Exhausted from the trip, she dropped her bags and jumped to her bed. Slowly closing her eyes, Helga's mind drifted away from her thoughts and before she knew it, she fell asleep.
A few hours passed and no one had returned home. Helga woke up, stretched in her bed and decided to take a quick shower before heading outside to eat something. She headed over to her closet and grabbed a pink t-shirt and plain jeans. Removing her ponytail, she looked at herself in the mirror. Even though her personality has changed a bit from all the travels and of course growing up, her fashion has not changed much. She believed that she did not need to impress anyone but herself. If anyone can describe Helga, it would be "a girl who has no sense of fashion with a unibrow." Yes indeed. Her unibrow had stuck with her throughout the years.
While in the shower, her pink cellphone vibrated. Messages from her best friend were waiting to be read.
Once finishing up, she headed over to her phone and noticed the messages.
Hello Helga!
I'm very excited to have you back.
Let's grab something to eat please?
Helga let out a small smile and replied
Sure. Let's go to that little diner we went towhen we graduated from high school.
She quickly braided her long golden blonde hair, grabbed her purse and left the house. Surely no one will be home when she returns.
The closer she got to the diner, the more nervous she was. Why would she even be nervous? It's her best friend for crying out loud. But why did she have a feeling she was going to receive some unexpected news?
Opening the door, she looked around the place and saw her best friend sitting alone in a table. Her back faced the entrance but Helga knew it was her. She walked over to the table and said "Hey Pheebs."
Phoebe looked up from her phone and let out a smile. She got up and gave Helga a warm hug. Helga couldn't help but notice how beautiful her best friend was. Her hair was short and bouncy. She still had glasses because she was afraid of contacts but her overall look made her pretty. She was wearing an oversized navy blue sweater with some black leggings and black flats. Her makeup consisted of soft colors which made her look very natural and innocent.
"So Helga. How was your trip? Your parents had told me you were returning home because you needed a job." She grabbed her cup of coffee and took a sip.
"My trip was nothing like I have ever dreamed of. It was glorious and filled with amazing views. I wish it never ended but yes. I do need a job if I ever plan on doing this again," replied Helga with a disappointed look on her face.
Phoebe wiped her lips with a napkin and said "Maybe you can get a job where I work at. I know they're looking for an assistant for the president of the company and I am sure you will fit in since you have a lot of experience."
Helga raised an eyebrow and said "Really? Hm. Maybe. Who is the president of the company?"
"Well they're about to switch presidents because the owner is going to retire. But you won't believe who will be the new owner of the company."
Helga with a confused but intrigued look on her face asked "Who is it?"
"It's Arnold." replied Phoebe.
ARNOLD?! How did he even get to own a company? His grandfather, I'm sure isn't the answer. Did his parents leave him a secret fortune to own the company? Why didn't she know about this sooner?
"Football head?!" she yelled.
