Time

This poem is, quite obviously, dedicated for Sirius Black and Remus Lupin (don't get me started). I'd been reading a lot of fanfiction about them, and I wanted to write some of my own. I started this poem at work when it was incredibly slow, and finished it later at home. It's one of my best yet, I must admit...

It's been too long, the years gone by

Since I've seen the life in your eyes.

I told myself repeatedly

That you and I weren't meant to be.

But there you are, and here I stand

You force a smile and take my hand.

"I knew that I could trust in you

To hold that strength and still pull through.

The times are hard, the road is long,

The wind is bleak, the tide is strong.

But since I left and all along,

I wished for you, where I belong."

My heart it pounds, I realize

You see beyond my crude disguise.

In my eyes and to my heart,

Past my soul to where it starts.

I missed you so, my love, so much,

But feeble words are not enough.

I'd give it all, my life, my breath

To go back to the past we left.

Where innocence was common place

Into trouble with no trace.

Soft emotions crossed your face,

I lost myself to your embrace.

Curious and young, but free,

Everything you meant to me.

You were all I'd never be

Caution lost into the glee.

Differences combined make one,

As were we, for good and fun.

But things grow and people change

They all watched, we were strange.

Acceptance you simply received

But it always eluded me.

Over stars and under moon

From the past and through the gloom

Hand in hand and under tree

While together, we were free.

Exploration, love and lust

Lost in passion's burning thrust.

Holding you, I'd close my eyes

Replacing pain with pants and sighs.

Letting go of all I fear

Nothing matters, you are near.

Back again, taken through time

You are here and we're alive.

Wolf and dog, stare and dwell,

To life and death, the depths of hell.

Feelings here I can't let go,

And raising eyes to let you know

Consuming touch, you and I

Recall the past within your eyes.

"Nothing's changed" your words to me

Could fill my mind eternally.

"Moony, lover, hear me now

Let me prove to you, somehow

That even if I'm not nearby

I still don't want to see you cry.

I've thought of you with each long day

In hope you would not go astray.

Time has past and things go on,

Night will move into the dawn,

To lose your trust, do as you see

But I am still yours loyally."

Your words clenched at my dim heart,

Turning, lost in love's true art

The guilt that doubt had filled my mind

Love, forever, is never blind.

Facing you are memories

Young and romping through the trees.

Inside, you've not changed at all

And, smiling, I can stand tall.

"You have my trust, my love, my life.

You have my heart, my pain, my strife.

You have my form, what it may be

To guard, however easily.

You have my past, the sores and pain

You have my future, lost or sane.

You have me, however true,

The time will pass. I'll still love you."
