A/N: Lily and James are watching from above as their granddaughter Lily is being born.
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, or anything else related to him.
Lily raised her eyebrows appraisingly at her new granddaughter. "She looks like me, I think. A little bit."
James put his arms around her from behind. "A lot, I think. She's already got a bit of red hair. And look at the way she's screaming. She's got your temper too, love."
She shrugged dispassionately. "It's probably from Ginny."
James looked at her strangely. When James had been born and then Al, Lily had cried and screamed in joy, so happy to be a grandma. But for this little baby, she was acting like she didn't care.
James had been married to her for too long to fall for that.
Lily leaned her head against his chest; he rested his chin on her head. "What's wrong?" he whispered. Lily wasn't usually so mopey or indifferent.
Lily didn't answer.
He stroked her hair gently. "Lily, you can tell me."
"You'll think I'm horrible."
"No, I won't, Lily. I promise."
Lily squeezed her eyes shut. "I always wanted a daughter," she whispered. "I wanted a boy and a girl, and I got the boy. But I never did get my daughter. And now—now, Harry has one, and I'm so happy for him, but I'm jealous. It's killing me."
James sat silently. He'd known when they had gotten married that Lily wanted at least one child of each gender, but hadn't realized she still longed for a daughter.
"Well," he said, uncertain as to how to proceed, "you do have a daughter-in-law, and I have to say that Harry did pick a good one."
She shook her head under his chin. "It's not the same. Ginny's great for Harry, but I've never even spoken to her."
"I know," he whispered.
"It's wrong for me to be jealous of my son. I'm so glad he got this joy, but…" Her breath caught in her throat.
James kissed the top of her head and rocked her back and forth a bit. "It's understandable, Lily. Really, it is."
She sighed and looked down at her newest grandchild, whom the doctors were fussing over.
"I have a granddaughter, though," she said slowly. "I'll never meet her, either. At least, not until she dies, and hopefully that won't happen any time soon."
"She seems perfectly healthy. Look, they're giving her to Ginny now."
Lily looked. "She does seem sweet. The baby, I mean."
They sat quietly and listened to the conversation going on.

"Lily Luna Potter," Harry pronounced. Ginny smiled, tired but joyful. "Luna will be happy," he continued.
Ginny looked at Harry. "And your mum, Harry. Your mum will be happy too."

James looked at Lily and whispered, "Are you?"
She struggled for words. This baby—this little girl—was named after her. Her. Tears stung her eyes and leaked all over her cheeks.
"God, yes," she said. She swung around and kissed James hard on the lips. "Oh, yes. Yes. I have a granddaughter, and she's healthy in every way. I'M A GRANDMA! Again! How did I get so lucky?"
She ran around, screaming and crying, like she had for her two previous grandchildren, before she returned to James and looked into his eyes. "James, I would have loved a daughter. But I don't need one. I've got my son and his beautiful family to watch over."

At that moment, Lily Luna Potter looked up at the sky and thought, Watch over me, Grandma. I need you.
