The butler creaked the hard candy doors open just wide enough for him to get in. The light from the hall created a bright streak across the floor of the dark room. Usually the butler would ask the princess to turn on the lights, as being in such an environment would do nothing good for her. However, today, such a request would only send her deeper into her despair.
The butler could not remember a time when the princess had fell this deep in anguish It was upsetting for him to see his princess in this state. She hadn't brushed or tended to her hair in three days. Her nightdress was wrinkled and there were spots from her tears on the fabric. Her cheeks were streaked with tears. Her blue eyes were bloodshot and wet. She was rocking back and forth in her bed, a sob escaping her lips every so often.
They had been trying to get the princess to fall in love for decades. They wanted their princess to be happy, to get out of the lab and enjoy herself a little. Then one day, love came tapping at her balcony window. The uptight side of the princess would scoff at the being, calling her distasteful. However, love got the best of her, and that wall came tumbling down. The vampire queen had stolen the candy princess's heart. The two had fallen for each other in a way people only dream of.
Then her love had been taken away by another mighty force-death. The vampire queen, after a long hard fight, had been stabbed in the chest with a wooden stake. And that was just how the princess felt when she got the news. The butler had never seen the princess break down as she did when she got the news.
The butler set the tea on the end table next to the princess's bed, just before the princess grabbed his shoulder.
"Peppermint Butler…you… can talk to death…and make a deal… with him… and he could…" the princess stuttered hysterically before breaking into another fit of sobs. "I just want to be with her again!" she screamed. She put her head between her knees and cried. The butler hated seeing his princess in this state, and to help her out, he put a little something in the tea.
