A girl with curled dark blonde hair walked through the park, her Dæmon known as Pantalaimon. Other people and their Dæmons passed, greeting them.

"We're almost there, Pan," the girl known as Lyra said excitedly. She was referring to a bench that she had been visiting for an hour for only a single year.

"I know, Lyra," Pan nodded. He was a pine marten and perched on her shoulder and curled around her neck.

Then they spotted it. The bench in the Botanic Gardens, Oxford. She quickly rushed over to it.

"Lyra! Wait, no, don't do it!" he called out to her, but it was too late. Her hand had already touched a bit of the bench.

The world evaporated into gold dust and whipped around them.

She had closed her eyes because she felt slightly woozy when the everything span around her. She let out a ragged breath.

Then an all-too familiar voice asked, almost uncertain sounding: "Lyra?"

She opened her eyes. There was a boy in front of her. He had straight eyebrows, dark hair, a strong-jutting jaw - and he looked a bit muscular to her. There was a passionate ferocity in his gaze as he peered at her. Most people wouldn't be able to look him in the eyes because of that look in his gaze. It was the way that he said her name that made her heart skip a beat. "Lyra."

"Will!" she clapped her hands over her mouth.

"Kirjava!" squeaked Pan, leaping at a large feline shape. Her pelt was blue-black in color and had the same passionate ferocity in her gaze.

"Pan!" she let out a small squeak of surprise as she tackled him. The two humans felt it only for a couple heartbeats.

"Lyra, oh God, Lyra, your actually here?" Will sounded excited.

"Yes, Will, I'm here." She nodded eagerly. Then her eyes brightened a bit. "Here, Will, eat this." She took a fruit out of her pocket and held it to Will's lips.

They were both familiar with what was going to happen. After all, it was how they realized their love for each other.

After a couple minutes of hesitation, Will pushed aside Lyra's hand and kissed her. She returned the kiss with no hesitation.

Almost too quick, the hour had ended. "Will!" Lyra called out Will's name.

He felt his heart break all over again. "No, Lyra, no!" he let out a gasp. They were clutching at each other tightly, but they felt each other dissolve under the other's touch.

Soon enough, they found themselves in their own world. Will held a hand to his chest but found the courage to stand up. He turned towards the bench.

And at the exact same time, they both say a shimmer of gold in front of them, of each other's faces. It was like a window made by the Subtle Knife, yet it was made out of golden dust.

Their palms touched as they touched hands and they kissed one last time. They spoke at the exact same time, "I will always love you." Then the golden shimmer disappeared.

They felt whole, knowing that there was still a part of each other with them. In a quick movement, in both Oxfords, they turned around and walked away.

But they knew that their love was eternal, and will never fade, even when they fade. But they made a promise. They promised that when they turned to dust, their atoms would attach to each other and would join in with the beautiful things in the world.

They also promised that if they found anybody else to love, they would never compare them. They never did found another love - not truly.

But still, they were looking forward to that day, when they will joined together once more. Despite it seeming far away from now, they both knew that it would happen soon enough.

Although they were seperated by the boundary of their worlds, their love was eternal, and for love - there was no boundaries. For their love was eternal.
