-Okay, so this is an extremely short one-shot, but I thought that it worked as a short moment between our two favorite Gladers :) This is also based off of Red Riding Hood, with a tiny twist. I hope you enjoy it!-

-Moonlight-

The Wolf and the boy in the red hood sat alone that night, under a tree in Jackson's Forest.

It was a fairly small woods just outside of the village the boy lived in. The trees were squat with wide winding branches. But their leaves were thick enough to block out most of the moonlight that night. Above him, there was a gap just big enough for him to see the ivory disc of the moon looking down. The silvery light played over his fingers as he ran them idly between the Wolf's fur. He smiled. It felt like black feathers against his palms.

"Soft," he remarked suddenly.

The Wolf lifted its head from the boy's lap and blinked at him through liquid brown eyes. The boy skimmed a hand down the back of the animal's neck. "Your fur's soft," he explained.

Huffing, the Wolf laid its head back down. Its forelegs were tucked under the boy's knees while it rested its chin on his legs. The flood of the Wolf's warmth against him made the boy sigh. "I wish I didn't have to wait so long," he murmured, fair hair rumpling as he tilted his head against the tree's bark. The hood of the brilliant scarlet cape his mother had made for him wrinkled at his neck.

There was a noise of protest and the Wolf prodded his nose against the boy's stomach. Chuckling, he smoothed a hand over the Wolf's long muzzle. "Sorry. I meant I wish WE didn't have to wait."

The Wolf nodded importantly. The boy's blue eyes softened. "Yeah, I didn't forget about you," he said. "How could I, when you're always out here waiting for me every night?" Sinking his fingertips into dark fur, he scratched a place at the nape of the Wolf's neck. A low rumble, almost like a cat's purr, vibrated from the animal's chest.

"Maybe you could just stay this time, okay?" the boy asked, a bit quieter. He didn't stop stroking the Wolf's fur, hoping to distract it. It nuzzled its head into his stomach, eyes closing. The boy swallowed. "Just stay with me. Okay?"

There was a tiny sound again and the Wolf's ear flicked. The boy imagined that there was a certain sadness about its movements. Eyelids drifting shut, he turned a final glance up at the moon. It stared back at him, unfeeling and with no pity for the two companions. It was the last thing he saw before sleep overtook him at last.

-X-X-X-

The sky was bathed in cream when the boy woke up. He squinted up at the rising dawn, stifling a yawn. Reaching up his arms for a stretch, he realized that there was no longer the press of fur against him. An eager smile began to tip up his lips and he looked down at the Wolf laying in his lap.

Without the moon's glow, the Wolf was now a boy, the sunlight playing over his sharp features. His head was still pillowed in the blonde's lap and his shock of hair was still jet-black. But the rest of his fur had morphed into black clothing and it was definitely human eyes that blinked up at the blonde when the Wolf awoke. The blonde grinned warmly and ran his hand through the Wolf's hair, much like he'd done to the soft fur before. The smile that was returned to him made his heart light up. "Hey, Min," the blonde murmured.

The Wolf that was now a boy reached up to cup the blonde's cheek. "Good morning, Newt."
