Jackie's Fall
Nick was sound asleep when all of a sudden he was awoken by a huge thud. His eyes flew open, he looked next to him and noticed Jackie wasn't laying next to him. He scrambled out of bed and found her on the floor next to the bed.
"Honey, are you ok, what happened?" Nick asked as he hurriedly went over to her.
"I don't know, I must have just rolled out of bed, my god what if I killed the baby?" She said frantically as she ran her hands over her six month pregnant stomach.
"I'm sure the baby's fine." He said with a smile as he slowly and gently helped her stand up.
"No, I fell really hard, I'm scared, I want to go to the ER right now."
"Ok, ok, just relax, did you get hurt at all?"
"No, I'm fine, I'm just worried about the baby. Get dressed, I want you to take me in."
"Alright, if you want to go we'll go." Nick said as he grabbed a pair of jeans and slipped on a t-shirt before helping her get ready.
Nick then quickly got the kids ready and then everyone headed to Jackie's parent's house to drop the kids off before Nick and Jackie headed off to the ER.
While waiting in the ER Jackie was nearly in hysterics.
"I'm so sorry Nicky, I will never ever forgive myself if I've hurt the baby."
"shhh, the baby will be fine, it's cushioned pretty well in there." He assured her with a comforting smile.
When they finally got called back Nick was holding her hand as the doctor began the ultrasound Nick noticed that she was shaking.
"It's ok, just relax." Nick told her.
Relief washed over the couple when the ER doctor told them that the baby was perfectly healthy.
"Are you sure?" Jackie asked.
"Yes I'm sure, do you know if the baby is a boy or a girl?"
"No." Jackie responded.
"Would you like to know?"
"We'd love too, at my last appointment the baby was being modest and wouldn't let us see."
"Well it is cooperating now, are you sure you want to know?"
"Yes." Jackie said, now instead of being scared she was extremely excited.
"Ok, it's a girl. Congratulations." The doctor said with a kind smile.
"Thank you." Jackie said as a smile crossed her lips.
She looked over at Nick who was also smiling.
"You and Houston better run." Jackie quipped at him.
Nick laughed.
"Yeah, I also better start saving up for all these weddings I am going to have to pay for." He said with a grin.
It was Jackie's turn to laugh.
She glanced back over at the screen.
"Look Nicky, she's waving at us." She exclaimed happily as she noticed the baby's hand in a wave like pose.
"That is so cool." Nick said as he stared at the screen in awe.
The doctor very nicely printed out a picture of the baby for Nick and Jackie to take home.
"Are you sure you didn't get hurt when you fell?" The doctor asked.
"I'm sure, I was just worried about the baby." Jackie said.
"I understand."
"Thank you, and thank you for giving us this picture." Jackie said.
"Yes thank you." Nick added.
"No problem, good luck, enjoy that little girl."
"We will." Jackie said before she and Nick left the hospital.
"What a night." Nick said as he helped Jackie get into the van.
"Yeah no kidding." Jackie chuckled.
They picked up the kids and shared the big news with her parents and then went home.
After all three kids were in bed the couple got ready for bed again themselves.
"Goodnight Nicky." Jackie said.
"Goodnight sweetie, love you."
"Love you too." Jackie said.
"Thank you, and Jackie?"
"Yeah?"
"Try not to fall out of bed again huh?" He said with a grin.
"Oh shush." She said as she swatted his arm gently.
He chuckled and then lovingly wrapped his arm around her and fell asleep.
"Goodnight baby girl, mommy loves you." Jackie said as she gave her tummy a gentle pat before falling asleep herself.
