A short Karvel oneshot. AU.
"I don't care what you think! If you care so much, then you can just go back to Glimmer!" Her eyes stung. She needed to cool down. Deciding to go to the sanctuary, Katniss stomps to the car and drives off, headed for the animal sanctuary.

Marvel watches her go, barely feeling his daughter wrap her arms around him. He picks her up and holds her close, sighing before deciding to go after Katniss.

Driving almost past the speed limit, Katniss swerves to avoid a rabbit. She isn't concentrating anymore on driving—all she thinks about is the fight. A few minutes later, she turns left, but nearly crashes into an oncoming truck. She jerks the wheel but the truck slams into the bumper, causing the car to turn on its side before crashing back down. Her head snaps back and forward again, and she feels a sharp pain in her chest. When the car finally stops moving, Katniss looks down to examine her injuries, and she knows she is doomed when she sees the window glass embedded in her skin.

Knowing Katniss would go to the sanctuary, Marvel drives down the highway and nearly misses the smashed car. He slams the brakes, parks quickly, and rushes over to where Katniss is laying, breathing shallow and weak.

She knows he is there when he grasps her hand. "No! You can't die on me! You have to stay with me, please!"
She turns her head ever so slightly to look at him. "I'm sorry," she says quietly, tears threatening to fall. "Move on without me. I want you to be happy."
Ashley comes over to the car. "Daddy? What are you—Mommy!" She climbs into the car and takes Katniss's other hand. "What happened? We'll—we'll find some way to fix you!"
Katniss shakes her head. "No, it's too late. I'm sorry. I love you so much, Ash. Help your daddy."
"No! Please stay!" Ashley sobs, leaning onto her mother's chest.

Katniss looks up. "I'm serious, Marvel. I want you to move on. Don't dwell on me."
"No, Katniss. I'm waiting for you. I'll never be able to move on from you," Marvel says, tears in his eyes.
"I love you."
"I love you."

It was a small funeral. The coffin was of a deep cherry wood, her favorite. Their friends and relatives came, tears from everyone falling on the smooth cover.

Glimmer is also there. Not for Katniss, though. "Hey, Marvel. So now Katniss is gone, are you thinking of finding a new girl?" She smiles flirtatiously and runs her hands down his chest. Marvel pushes her away.
"No. Never. Even if I was, I wouldn't go out with you," he scowls.
"Well, you know what? It wasn't just anyone that killed your precious girl. It was me!" Soon, still yelling, she is taken away by police officers.

Now an old man, Marvel goes to bed one night and never wakes up. He is restored to who he once was when he was with Katniss, young and with their six-year-old daughter. He is finally where he is supposed to be— with Katniss.

Years later, Ashley joins them, restored to a young teenage girl. Their family is complete once more.

"Stay with me?"
"Always—forever."
