Pieces of You

There you stand, next to me
patting my head, brightening my day.
I turn for a second, barely looking away.
You vanish from sight, leaving nothing but me.
I chase after you, and find a chance
to gain strength to fight day after day.
For if I were to say nay,
I would fall in this endless dance.
And now I'll stand against the odds,
to do what I can to protect the fragile you.
I will hold the pieces in view,
and watch over them like a god.
This is the time, I cannot delay.
I will fight on through,
for never will I lose the pieces of you
that guide me through the morn' of each day.
