The Previous Me

I decided to give Shiki one more chance in fiction. This is no Oneshot, either. Let's see where this will lead us.

Prologue:

"Hi there, your name is Kaori Tanaka. You live with your younger brother, Akira. If you are wondering who wrote this letter, it's me. No wait, actually it's you. I'm Kaori Tanaka of the past. I know it's all strange but you see, I have an illness. I get amnesia when I think too hard or sometimes, whenever I woke up in the morning. It's really hard to explain; even the doctor doesn't know how to cure me. So, to keep track of my memories, I wrote them down in my diary. If you don't have it in your hands, it's probably on the desk in your room, or at the office. . ."

I looked around the room for the said diary. Then I saw something that looks like a Teacher's notebook. I opened it and stared at the contents. As I began to read, there were some funny notes and drawings in it. It's completely unorganized. I wonder what my job is. Do I even have one to begin with?

I seem like a clumsy person and with such a strange illness; I don't think I'm very reliable. As I read some more, I felt like I was studying; only it's about myself. Apparently, I was involved in some accident 2 years ago, and that's when this cycle of amnesia started.

Skipping a few pages, I saw some profiles. One is about Akira, who is my brother. Things like "Don't make Akira worry" or "Akira's gung-ho and energetic" is written all over the page. Reading the whole content, I learned that I do actually have a job, a volunteer teacher at a nearby Kindergarten. And, I almost lost it when Akira knew that I had amnesia at the school. He almost had me resigned.

'So that's what "Don't make Akira worry" mean?'

Rereading the notebook, something caught my attention.

"Akira won't tell me who he is."

'He? Who's he?' I wondered.

"I need to find him."

...

"I want to ask him so many questions."

...

"I want to go back."

...

"I want to meet him again."

'...w-what?'

"I, I—"

'Natsuno-san…'

Everything became black.
